I remember starting to collect when I was younger, played weekend rep basketball with my older brother and cousins and I think the collecting just followed on from there. I can remember my brother loved shaq and I think I was more of a Zo fan and one of my cousins loved Derrick Coleman. I can remember going to superstars and legends stores in Melbourne (might of been Knox or eastlands, can't really remember) and everything else would come from news agents or Lilydale Markets which was right across the road from the basketball complex. My brother always had better luck busting cards, he would always get the good inserts and Jordan's.

I hear everyone on here its the same for me... 1993-94 I lived at Katoomba first year of high school and it was all nuts about cards I used to save all my pocket money to buy a pack of upperdeck from kmart once a week which also meant I had to miss the bus and get home 2 hours later. It didn't matter though that feeling of paying and holding that pack of cards the hope of what will be inside. I was hooked on penny loved him and shaq, but still Jordan and Harold miner were so high on the list.
Then my mum starting working in Penrith and there was a whats new store and they had packs and singles for sale it was like heaven I would spend hours just drooling on the glass! Then it all disappeared until I found ebay about 18months ago and got straight back into it as if I was still a 13 year old kid all over again! :)

93/94 aswell, upper deck/skybox/fleer/hoops/ultra, yeah i bought a few of the 20$ packs of finest too

Remember finding a corner store that sold a few years later and remember hitting a few nice ones like 96spx iverson holoview heroes insert and 96/97 or maybe 97/98 topps mystery reprint refractor of bird/magic/erving, and also remember trading it to a mate in massive trade for the same card but slightly more faded....too this day i think its a counterfiet.

i have collected casually from 93/94 to 2000, and started again about 2010.

ahh buying ex 2000 and ex2001(96 and 97) , one or two cards per pack at $10+ haha stupid..

i collected van exel, rider and kemp

Pretty sure it was 95-96. Started at school after being gifted some cards and sort of went on and off every couple years ever since. Since I joined this site a couple years back I haven't strayed tho!

I still remember the first card I ever got. Was given it at primary school 93-94 nba hoops chucky williams. Thats where it all began. After this I got my first pack of the same set. Pulled shaq and has been my favourite player ever since. Until an older kid at school would manage to rip you off for it. Im sure this has happenned to all of us haha. I never had the money to buy packs all the time but when my parents would surprise me with one every now and then would be the most exciting feeling. As everyone else has said the shops had come and gone but I found from this you would find the odd random shop still selling old stock and they had become a lot cheaper so as I got older I never stopped. Ebay 2006. My bank account was crying after this year. I had discovered the world of online cards. I had to get all the cards id wanted as a kid. First jordan auto. Lebron auto. The craze still continues. It is still exciting but overall early 90s were the greatest time for Nba in this country ever

All i want to say is....

Our dream cards back in the day!

Reminds me of when I pulled an MJ living legends as a 9 or 10 year old at Granny Mays - certainly the most amazing and valuable card I'd ever busted. The shop owner offered me like a dozen or so assorted packs for it; and being a young & naive wax addict (even then!) I accepted. Of course I pulled nothing but junk - even by 90's standards
I've never forgiven myself for being so foolish and it's probably the reason why I'm loathe to let go of anything I've pulled from packs to this day

I know the feeling. I can't bring myself to sell anything pack pulled!
