I certainly hear where you are coming from, but i actually disagree,For what it's worth I think SOO serves no purpose other than to generate money for the game, so this is an argument I'll never win. Nevertheless I believe it has an adverse effect on the NRL Premiership and I've had this opinion for many years. I'm not just a sulky NSW supporter who has got sick of losing, I have been down on SOO for a very long time.
Yes, it is possibly the highest standard of RL on the planet but it is of no consequence in a code that's ultimate goal is a Grand Final victory and whose ultimate individual achievement is to represent Australia. Interstate matches were once played as a stepping stone for standout players to be selected to wear the Green & Gold. Now we have the SOO circus and it has no bearing on international selections and serves only to fill the coffers and detracts from the main game, the NRL Premiership.
Sadly, state of origin has lost the intensity it once had, after the loss of the punch and he sin bin.I certainly hear where you are coming from, but i actually disagree,
What we see in SOO is the type of football that we used to witness back in the 70's, 80's and early 90's in club games, the type of football that fans loved to watch and get excited about. The best football is produced at SOO level, so naturally the viewing audience is very high. The NRL level of football is fair to poor compared to what was witnessed during the years i have mentioned. Of course money comes into the equation but NSW has been poor of talent for the last decade, and the results have shown that.
ps. I am a diehard Blues fan living in QLD for the last 12 years, i know how embarassing the NSW team is believe me.
As terrible as NZ have been this year they actually showed up today. Johnson was excellent and they enjoyed some good runs of possession and a few lucky calls but that is football.
Maybe if Gillett and Oates played things would have been different but I don't think Origin is at fault here, Brisbane were beaten on the day by a better side.
Which team do you support?Everything is inconsistent. Some teams play the top level clubs twice while some only play them once. Some teams get a 7 day turnaround nearly every week and some get multiple 5 day turnarounds. In an ideal world every team would play each other twice, one home and one away game but it's hard with the current number of teams.
