I have been reading through the growing list of disappointing box breaks on the net regarding the latest release of Fleer 06/07, and it got me thinking about how many collectors have veiwed this release.
Sure Upper Deck has screwed people big time over the Fleer buyback fiasco, and they failed to deliver on the main selling point of one 86/87 Fleer buyback card per box.
But my question is, if you were to take the Fleer buybacks out of the Fleer 06/07 release (including the Jordan signed rookie/s) how many people would have rushed out to bust boxes and cases of this product?
How many people here would be happy to bust a box at roughly $85- $100 AUD/box knowing that the best cards you could get were lots of nice base cards and un-numbered inserts, a jersey card and the chance at pulling an autographics card?
I feel that many people (apart from the Fleer faithful and traditional collectors) would have moved on to other products.
Sure, Fleer is/was one of the iconic brands of our time and Buybacks aside, most of the boxes have yielded many nice cards.
Collectable cards? Very much so. Valuable cards? Probably not.
One of the big aspects of this years release that has been lost on a lot of people breaking this product is that the fact that Fleer has always been a mid to low range product.
If you bust a box of Fleer this year, keeping in mind this fact, you will probably enjoy your break, and if you get a decent Fleer buyback card, it will make it that much sweeter.
I was thinking about this also Matt....but the fact that UD marketed the shit out of the Fleer Buybacks and then didnt deliver....That is why people are shitty.
I think you answered you own question...had they not have marketed the way they did, the amount of cases sold and dissappointed people would be much less.

Im still looking forward to my break even knowing i will probably pull a .10c 88/89 fleer buyback, the base and inserts look very nice, specially the 20th anniversary ones, i think i might go for the set of those...
Im pretty annoyed cos I, along with everyone who jumped in on the group buy, paid for it BEFORE the "86/87 buybacks" became "the late 80's buybacks" ... Ive always loved Fleer and I probably would have bought a box anyways, but UD has really annoyed a lot of customers; I can see this being a real turning point with customers, the most of which are probably already not real happy.
I think UD did a fairly good job with Ultra this year but the fact that they haven't delivered with this product is obviously disappointing. Why are UD so stingy?
i have been very unimpressed with the product as a whole so far. I am thinking of selling my box on ebay and see how it goes (unless there is some ozcards code of conduct that says i have to bust it ).
I wonder what it would fetch?
Normally there is a rule to not sell a group buy box on for a profit.....a good rule no doubt. But in this instance, I wonder what the 'powers that be' take on that rule is? Would these boxes even sell on the bay for a profit???

i'm as hooked as you guys are, i think i get more excited at other peoples live breaks than the breaker but (as rude as it is) i have to back out. At least if i got a bonus i could say the funds are coming from that.
What happened to the fun side of the hobby? All these people looking to score something big, it takes away from the feeling of busting packs and trading etc, the thing that this whole place is all about. Of course, congrats to all those people who do get something 'big' or 'good' from their breaks but do I regret my break? Not at all. I didn't pull anything that could be regarded as 'mojo' but I had fun. The whole box breaking process is a system of luck and why attempt to treat every potential break as a way to make a profit. To each their own I guess.
This isn't directed at any of my fellow OzCardians in particular, just my point of view.
Doc is right Richo. I normally don't wan to see ANY of our group buy boxes on eBay. If you want to flip boxes for profit on eBay then do it yourself as I don't put in my time and effort for nothing simply for others to gain off.
Im sure we will find someone that wants the box and if we don't I rekon it goes on eBay and if ANY profit comes up it goes to a better place.
Its ace's box but it hasn't been paid for so its still ozcards property as far as I'm concerned. ;-)
Anyone wanting to get in on a box or pick up a second one by all means PM me. Be aware also like I told Ace to post and he didn't that the above counts and its from the third case so just as much chance at an auto or Jordan than anyone else.
I agree with Funk...This is a hobby therefore meant to be fun, you shouldnt be in it to make $$$...The boxes are a afun break even if the cards arent worth much and Upper Deck did rip us off with the buybacks...I say bust it and see what comes of it
