Interested to see everyone's thoughts. Some tough words for select.

Try 12 months Matt. Lol

I agree. I do know that another well known card company has had its CEO in the country recently....this leads to some interesting speculation.

I dont really care which company it is, as long as we collectors get something that meets the expectations of collectors.

Cheers
Matt

Hopefully the draft prospects release will show what we've been missing out in terms of quality and variety and how a relatively small business (when compared with Select) is able to produce cards with the limited resources they have. Can't wait for Friday!

OK....read it.

It is interesting to read approx how much $$$ Select potentially make from the AFL anyway and explains that post I read about the "fake" Rookie cards.

C'mon Topps and Panini bring some competition to the market !!!!!

Really good read. "More importantly, the disquiet among top-end collectors has grown" was the quote of the article.
Its funny Select didnt return their calls, They need to man up and answer the tough questions.

Select need to do better cards to stay alive or sell the company to a business that will nd keep the same name nd stuff so ppl can still redeemed there cards wat they have

Hmm, could this be the reason for the sudden introduction of innovation to the 2012 series. Even if nothing comes of other companies taking an interest, at least it should keep Select honest.
Imagine Topps having a crack at NRL though, the card backs would be probably be bursting with season/career stats...

I have heard the NRL contract is up this year also. Not sure how true that is but there will be some interesting times ahead.

Good read. Personally I would love to see a new player in the card market. Competition would only be advantagious to the collector. It would definately mean an increase in card quality from both a graphic and structural point of view.

But if some other company starts producing NRL cards, and they make sets that have everything the hardcore collector wants, then we will eventually get sick of that, and demand an even higher quality product, which will lead to stuff like triple sig game worn gold hologram embedded movie time warp reach in and touch the player card which will push prices to an extortionate level and kill the other 95% of the market.

Satisfaction is the death of desire.

I think that you have a point but you simply cater for your markets carefully. Select and Panini actually do this well...have one set (Champions) aimed at the younger audience, and a higher end product that is geared towards older collectors. i think that its this higher end product that has lacked innovation in terms of what other companies are putting out around the world.

This is what Footycards.com.au are doing well.....aiming the set they are about to release at collectors who want higher end premium limited cards.

I think this is why they will succeed

Cheers
