UFC MMA Discussion (spoilers)

It pays to make some noise.

Emailed Topps last night about my two Overeem auto redemptions (regular and red ink) from 2013 Knockout and apparently they're completed and on their way. :kick:

However the Costa Phillipou grill gear relic from 2013 Finest is still yet to be done. Not too worried on that one.

HAHA I still have a redemption from 2010 Knockout waiting. And a brock lesnar Auto from 2012 KO that I'll never see.

Who did you make some noise to?

I emailed support@topps.com copy & pasted the info from my redemption page and asked if there any updates or chance they could be fulfilled already, pointing out that the Overeem ones had been pending for a while now.

I figured that if they're getting guys in to do on card autos for KO 2014, maybe they'll sort out some of the outstanding ones as well.

Lesnar could be tough given he's left the UFC, but seeing as Topps also do WWE cards I wouldn't lose all faith. (I don't know if they do on card autos for their WWE stuff though).

I'm keen to see some on card Overeem autos because I've been a little skeptical given the way his auto changed. His Leaf auto, Topps auto and IP auto are all different.

In other news the UFC would be nuts if they didn't bring Anthony Johnson back in. He looks very comfortable at LHW, a division that's getting very thin in the UFC, going 6-0 (4 KO, 2 Dec) since being cut, with four of those wins against former UFC fighters (including a win at heavyweight over Arlovski).

Anybody else watch the latest fight night? How in the name of jeebus did Thomson not win? One judge gave FOUR rounds to Henderson.

Agree with you on that one mate...His grappling and ground skills had Benson on the back foot for most of the fight. As a whole i have to agree with my boy Nate Diaz on this one...It seemed like more of a social catch up for these guys rather than a fight.

Pat Barry is taking an indefinite leave of absence from MMA and has been granted a release from the UFC.

Sounds like with the growth of GLORY he's heading back to kickboxing.

Bit Premature i know ...but a fight im sure everyone is looking forward to.
UFC FIGHT NIGHT

SAT. FEB. 15

MACHIDA VS. MOUSASI

This will be one hell of a battle...
Im looking for Machida to hold his take down defense and counter with large head kicks....after that it will all be Hammer fist. At least i hope:D

Also... Overeem VS MIR. The Reem has lost some body weight and looks amazing..Killing machine... and i think his high intensity style of fighting together with take down defense and one punch knockout will catch the battle torn Mir off guard(although he should expect it from the Reem)... Bring on the slug fest !

Machida v Mousasi is a match up that's happening too soon! Because I love both fighters and I don't want to see either of them take a loss. I can see the fight going either way, they're both predominantly strikers and are evenly matched in size. Mousasi is the bigger threat given he finishes more than 3/4 of his fights, but then Machida can frustrate the best fighters with his movement. Too tough to call.

Other the other hand Mir v Overeem is easy, Overeem all day :D Only way Mir wins this is if Overeem still hasn't found a way to last the full 3 rounds (but then Mir has trouble doing the same) or his fight IQ is still out to sea (f*****g Travis Browne front kicks). I don't see Mir outstriking Overeem, the clinch would be suicide and Overeem - with 18 sub wins - is no slouch on the ground.

I think that Machida is more patient and will wait for the "correct" moment to induce the pain. His take down defense is paramount and the counter will be Mousasi's downfall.... But i have to agree with you Laz i would rather see Lyoto take on someone with a different style other than Gerard. Im tipping Machida to pull away from the clinch and head kick KO or Front kick followed by an elbow.... can only hope;)

I don't see Mousasi going for takedowns, and I think Machida would be wise to not go for anything too flashy. Machida may be older but Mousasi has more experience in both MMA and Kickboxing.

btw... anyone getting on the 2014 Topps KO pre order?

Haven't pre-ordered but I did skip Bloodlines so I'll be down for some Knockout, few months off yet though. I hope they change it up a bit, its getting a bit samey every year.

Overeem has come in far too soft in the fights with Browne and Silva. Didn't look in shape at all; maybe he's off the horsemeat! Dropping some bodyweight and coming in in better shape might go some way to prevent the late lapses in both fights. Having some respect for his opponents striking probably wouldn't hurt either. Drops his hands way too much for my liking. Works for the likes of Wineland and (until recently) Spider but clearly not working for the Reem right now!
