Minimum age requirement...

I know it's mean, and it's a public forum where people should be free to use it how they wish, but it seems that 13-year-olds just have no clue and are extremely annoying. Can we make it a minimum of 15-16 or something...?

I know I'm probably gonna get shot down for this but I'm just voicing my opinion...

Good luck with having kids of your own if you find them annoying now on a serious note, We all need to learn the hobby somewhere so I just try to give them the best advice and help I can which includes pointing out their mistakes. Give them a chance, they will come good with a little time

This has been brought up before I think and whilst a lot of of the young people on here can be annoying from time to time, there are also a few that behave well and are mature for their ages.

It is a fair opinion mate..

But in saying that there are several members on this site under the age of 16 including myself, who are here to follow the rules and get along with the other members.
I don't think any tests should be in place but if a kid wants to muck around and annoy others someone should have a word to them.

Whilst I agree with Hairys suggestion and also give him Kudo's for having the guts to raise this issue, however I also agree with what Terry says in response.

I too am finding some of the posts from some of the younger members to be quite annoying but on the other hand some of the other younger members put this old guy to shame when comes to using a forum.

Is there anything in place so that when a new member joins an email is sent showing them links to useful threads such

What is this card worth
How to do a search
How to leave feedback
how to write up a trade

If it does then I will shutup, if it doesn't it may be a good idea and may reduce the need for mods to be pm'ing new members all the time.

Just my two cents worth

Of course Hairy the other option should you find someones posts continually annoying is the Ignore option.

I think it's more new users and not necessarily the young ones. A lot of new guys have been spamming the forums with 'boxes they might buy', 'advice on boxes' and 'box breaks which will happen in a month'.

Maybe we could implement a system for new users where they have say a maximum of 1 new thread every week and a maximum of 5 posts a day up until a month on the forum? What do you think?

^ agree with above. Or maybe, cant start a new thread for X amount of weeks after joining? most of the q's being asked have already been covered, a waiting period on new threads could force new members to search before reposting old topic.

Or they could implement a Leisure Suit Larry style age quiz to gain access.

Nah that would mean they wouldn't be able to start a 'introduction' thread either

i think you should have a maximum amount (maybe 5?) threads youre allowed to start before you make lets say 100 posts?
its not just the young ones tho. people just starting threads for every little question they got. doubling up even...

That's usually how I see things done. It's like the minimum feedback thing before you can be paid before sending cards, the only thing that I think might work is a number of posts before you can start buying/selling/trading. It seems some young people are going crazy trying to buy up stuff without necessarily having the means to pay for it which is slightly concerning.

Terry is right, the young and the new to the hobby need somewhere to start and we as part of the card collecting community should not be turning people away but actually guiding them through the hobby and setting a good example.

They just need some time to find their feet and learn what's going on, it can be annoying at times but we just need to steer them in the right direction.

The more kids introduced into this hobby the better, we don't want to start pushing them away.:v:

It seems that some people seem to forget that new collectors are the future. Maybe we should have a retirement age for collecting ! Its so easy to forget that we were all like that as kids.
