I think Tawqeet will win easily. Keep Bossy & Craig Williams horses safe. Can't understand why the jockey that rode Efficient to wins in the Metropolitan and the Derby isn't on it in the cup. Don't give it much of a chance anyway. I think Hayes will set the pace with his 300-1 shot and give Tawqeet every chance. I'd take Delta Blues over Pop Rock if you like things a little Oriental. Pop Rock no chance thanks to a washed up rider.
I've got:
Activation in a trifecta with Yeats, Dizelle, Mandela, Zipping & Tawqeet.
Yeats in a Tri with Activation, Dizelle, Mandela, Zipping & Tawqeet.
Mixed Quinella with the above horses. I decided to drop Pop Rocks, Efficient, Geordieland & Delta Blues out of my system to keep things sane money wise!
Just got back from the pub, I got $20 on Pop Rock to place, $10 to win, and I put down a box trifecta with Yeats, Pop Rock, Tawqueet, and On a Jeune. Also picked up a few of those $3 mystery trifectas, a few of which seem promising... Good luck to all! Damn, I just realized I forgot completely about Geordieland, or however u spell it! Hope it doesn't come back to bite me...
I've spread the love a bit this year with $10 e/w Geordieland (18/1), Pop Rock (7/1) and Zipping (9/1) and $5 e/w Railings (24/1), Demerger (117/1)and Maybe Better (11/1). Grabbed a couple of mystery trifectas too and got On a Juene, Pop Rock and Zipping on one and Yeats, Tawqeet and Headturner on the other.
Yeah, a weird race, 2 out of the 3 favourites weren't even close... Well, I think I got my money back and a bit more thanks to Pop Rock, but would've been a hell of a lot happier if he snuck the win in... I thought Delta was just setting Pop Rock up for the win, so I was stoked, but the damn thing never slowed down enough for my horse to sneak in! #-o Ah, well... I think just about everyone's trifectas and such got shot to hell, ay?
I didn't win with my bets but I won Maybe Better in the Calcutta at work and trippled what I paid so I ended up just below even for the day....my wife had $5 each way on Delta Blues & $3 each way on Pop Rock so she did OK
Was reading the Courier Mail on my way to work yesterday or today, and to my surprise it seems Pop Rock and Delta Blues are both considered B-grade horses in Japan! There's a horse there, Deep Impact, who apparently beat Delta Blue's time in the Melbourne Cup by 14 body lengths over the same distance in July... The article said Deep Impact would be ineligable to ride in the Melbourne Cup coz his handicap would exceed the limit, or something like that. Tell ya what, I'm pencilling myself in for a wager on each and every Japanese horse that enters next year!
