Ok all you "experts" out there, help us not in the know with your tip for the Melbourne Cup & Why !!!

My tip is Tawqeet becuase of his win in the Caulfield Cup and because I think it is the year of David Hayes !!!

My tip for "Best Value" Win is Activation but the barrier draw has somewhat put me off......another I think is "Good Value" for a win is On a Jeune :)

Tip to win: Based on form and weight, Efficient will be hard to beat. I know history does not point in his favor, but i cant fault him. Looks like a true stayer. Only concern is backing up after 3 days.

To trouble the winner: Activation has been there abouts at the post in it's last 3 starts and looks like it needs the extra distance. With a wet track predicted, the going will suit.

Roughie: On a Juene Surprised many last yr, coming in with similar form again. Distance not a problem, son of a melb cup winner, bred for this race!

Good call on On a Jeune Ozballer I agree ;)

I ended up betting on Tawqeet for a win & place, Activation for a place, On a Jeune for a place and Yeats, Delta Blues, Tawqeet, On a Jeune & Pop Rock for a boxed Trifecta !!!

I'm not going to change now, I have been calling a Yeats win for many weeks.

When the money came for him early on and he got injured. The trainer said he might not arrive, the bookies blew the price out. All of a sudden, more money came on him and next thing you know, he was in OZ. I just laughed.

I don't like the draw though. In the first 20 seconds of the race, we'll know if he will win or not. If he gets caught up early on, it's over. You aren't running anything down from the back with 59KGs.

I'll be taking a few horses with him as a stand out. And also a saver with a boxed trifecta with him not running a place, assumeing he will get jammed up at the start.

Good luck to everyone, but I think maybe-

To Win #24 Efficient

Each Way #8 Activation

Long Shot #3 Railings

Trifecta on NSW Tab $30.00 gets 9.74%
win 24
Second 1,3,4,5,8,11,12,13,17,20,21,22,23
Third Field

See how I go

I have a heap on Geordieland to win at 16/1.

Activation, Tawqeet, Geordieland, Efficant and Maybe Better in a box Trifecta.

thats not a bad boxed Trifecta there Richo, but even though i really liked Delta Blues last week, they brought over a Japenese jockey to ride him and this will be his first ride in Australia, let alone in 'The Cup'. that will, IMO, hurt Delta Blues' chances.

i will have a boxed trifecta with Yeats, Tawqeet, Pop Rock and 2 others that i am still undecided between Efficient, maybe better, Railings and Zipping. any horse with Glen Boss on board is in with a good chance in my books.

i will probably have a quinella with Yeats and Pop Rock as i find it hard to split these to to find a winner!!

im goin pop rock for the win
and trifecta:
Pop Rock
Efficent
Zipping

always tough, won twice on the cup Jezzabel in 98 and the Diva last year.
Damien Oliver is a plus and Pop Rock won like 5 races in a row befour coming 7th at the Caulfield in what was quite an impressive run.

good luck to everyone, picking the winner out of 24 Horses is not an easy task unless the horses name is Makybe Diva ;)

My tip for the race is Tawqeet.

My roughie is Dizelle

For those wanting to back Efficient just remember that his time was 2.5 seconds slower than Maybe Better over the same distance. That is around 5 lengths, quite a lot to make up in 3 days!!

Yeah, I'll probably put a bit on Pop Rock, and maybe a little on either Yeats or Tawqueet, probably win/place for all... Don't do much betting, but it's the Melbourne Cup, so you've gotta have a flutter, surely... If I'm adventurous, I might have a go at one of those box trifectas or mystery trifectas, just have to see what happens when I'm at the pub. Usually have a bit of a chat to the older fellas placing bets, hopefully pick up a good tip or 2... Went for Eyepopper last year which didn't go too well, but time to go back for another bite. Went alright the year before with the Diva, got a few hundred, but I think I spent half of it on beer and pokies before I even left, dammit... #-o

I don't have a great record in Melboune Cup betting but last year I cleaned up at the TAB and in the work Calcutta (My syndicate had the top 3)......Good old Makybe Diva - What a Horse !

You might be right about the stats but that is the funny thing about the best race in the world our "Melbourne Cup". With so many horses, a huge crowd, and the extra distance that both horses have not been over (if I read the form guide right) there is one sure thing, any horse from the favorite to the absolute outsider can win this race.

Once again goodluck to everyone.

My tips are:
1st: Efficient
2nd: Dizelle
3rd: On A Juene

Roughie: Zipping

Im gonna put a tri fecta with Effiicient to win me thinks. :)

I'm with you Metallica and I'm throwing in Geordieland in a boxed Trifecta. Surely Frankie's due one of these days!

Efficent won't win the Melbourne Cup. It is its first ever preparation, only 5 starts ago it was a maiden horse. Yeats seems to be a reasonable horse but has 59kgs and hasn't started in Australia before.

The two Japanese horses (Delta Blues and and Pop Rock) are a chance because they have run in the Caulfield Cup and both seem have been running reasonably well. Pop Rock recently beat Delta Blues easily in trackwork but Delta Blues is a noted lazy trackworker. Probably prefer Pop Rock due to an Australian jockey being aboard.

Tawqeet is going as well as ever but is starting to go up in the weights now. Don't mind it just don't like backing favourites unless they seem like true champions.

I'd give anyone a tip though, if you like anything with Zabeel breeding they usually will run the trip so even if it's an outsider it'll probably still run in the first 10 and give you a good sight for a place.

Dunno what i'll bet if anything for that matter, but if I do have a bet I shall let ya's know.

Just wondering why you'd have 24 to come second?
