Left Field: Opinion needed on baby name!

My wife and I are expecting our first child in August. We now have to argue about, oops, I mean, decide on a name.

We are Hawthorn supporters and we always joked about calling a boy Buddy, or Cyril. But then we talked about Franklin. And now we are just about sold on it, but we dont want to be the huge bogans that named their kid after a footballer!!

So it would be Franklin Matthews. Has a good sound to it we think.

Our thinking is that in 10 years no one will know he was named after Lance Franklin, but in the mean time it might be awkward at the MCG calling for our child Franklin! What about if they play football, Go Franklin etc etc.

So looking for some like minded opinions. Is it so uncool its awful? Or is it kind of cool?

Honestly, no matter what people say, it's a name only a parent (you guys) should decide.

I've no experience with kids, hopefully one day, so I REALLY can't comment, but in my honest opinion, Franklin Matthews sounds a bit wanky and hopefully I don't upset you, but that's ONLY based on the fact that I know it's after Buddy Franklin. If it was un-announced and you said meet my son Franklin Matthews, I'd be all for it, it really does have a nice ring to it mate!

Also if your both happy with the name thats what matters. No if you went crazy with a names like Apple or starstruck then that could be a different story for your child.

Dont know the sex yet, If it is a girl then problem solved!

During one of my wife's pregnancies, the doc changed their mind 3 times and still got it wrong? hahaha.

I think the only downfall with the names is the team you support! Otherwise, I do like Franklin. Not Lance so much, and deffo not Buddy! Unless you decide to change his surname to 'Love'.

Also, I think you should tweet Buddy and tell him you will name the kid after him as long as he looks after my dream team for the remainder of the season!
