So I am sure some of you herd about the latest crazy to hit our shores.

In a nutshell african americans think this ad is racist because it stereotypes them as being fried chicken eaters.

What are your thoughts?

I think in todays society alot of people are getting to precious about a variety of situations and need to lighten up

I aksed my black friend from africa if it was he said yes.

I asked my jamaican friend he said no.

so go figure.

They make a commercial about a white man basically outsmarting and distracting a crowd of black people with a bucket of chicken. Hell yes it's racist no matter whether it's intended to be racist. Funny or not...

It's soft but I can see why some poeple would be offended.

Americans don't even know what cricket is, and the West Indians are not American negro's, its not racist imo and the ad was reproduced without permission, Copyright violation right there, if KFC get onto who uploaded it to youtube there could be a lawsuit in the wind.

What exactly was the "awkward" situation? A single white male in a sea of black people enjoying the match? How is that a "survival" tip? Racist IMO.

Well seeing you all asked someone I asked my dad what he thought and he told me to get a F&*%^n life you stupid (*(*& now stop bothering me with cr@p!

:lol::lol::lol:
:lol::lol:
:lol:

Nah just kidding he wouldn't even aswer the phone as he knew it was me ringing (tic)
Bwhahahahaha

its funny, the same poster put up the other KFC ad about the Guy pretending to be a cop and scoring free tickets at the cricket. He asks if this is agianst the law.

I think he has some personal grudge against KFC. probably fired his ass.

Truthful or not, let's not forget the rumors of Colonal Sanders being a Clan member or a Clan supporter. Another possible reason for people being overly offended.

Also, gotta agree with Xzibit. The whole survival and awkward thing, what are they suggesting exactly? There's a million other ways to sell Chicken...

Is it racist toward African-Americans, who are the ones kicking up a stink about it? OBVIOUSLY not! Hell, is there a SINGLE African-American, or someone supposed to represent an African-American, in this ad??? I think not! Besides, even real racists who would make the connection from Afro-americans to fried chicken aren't suggesting all black people all around the world have a pre-disposition towards fried chicken. Hell, does it LOOK like the average African gets a whole lot of fried chicken in their diet??? I'm sure Etheopia/Sudan/Mozambique etc are all AWASH with fried chicken outlets, huh...

The second thing is, not ONLY did the ad feature a different race, but the ad never even aired on American TV from what I heard. Someone saw it on youtube or another file-sharing network and decided to spread it around the US. Hell, does the average Australian get offended at all the "cracker/yokel/redneck" jokes black comedians get away with? No, because number 1, its usually funny, and number 2, we don't identify with "Deliverance hicks or trailer trash". But, "OOOh, they're white, I'm white, so they MUST be picking on me too..."

KFC Australia is a sponsor of the cricket, and at the time the west indies were touring, or had just left. So as a major sponsor I don't see the problem. I see no womens rights groups are up in arms yet about the other ad where he's trying to watch the cricket on TV, and the girl and guy walk in and start yammering, so he gives them a pocketfull to shut up. "OMG, this is SOOO insensitive! The girl's got every right to unload emotionally on the guy, and guys have NO right to tune them out, even if they were in the room first!"

And I could see them being offended by Colonel Sanders possibly being a Klan member, but it obviously hasn't stopped them buying his products before this "incident". Are they enabling racism by eating Klan-supplied chicken?

Whether it is racist or not, depends on the person who is taking offence from it. If someone does take offence because of a race related issue that they are a part of, then even if you think it is not racist, it is.

You may think it is funny, others may not.

Ultimately if it does offend some then it probably is, even if you do not think it is.

Personally I am not sure why it is. But if you look at it with a lot of fat people instead of Jamaicans, then I am sure fat people would take offence even though you may think it is not offensive.

It is personal opinion and respecting other's opinion.

Some may say "lighten up", but if a significant number take offence to it, then it probably needs to be toned down rather than have others lighten up.

Yeah, I think that a lot of them would be fried chicken eaters.

So you can't offer anyone food anymore. It is only the offering of food so their hands and mouths are busy instead of making the noise.

I'm well aware of the fact that they're sponsored by KFC but still, there's other ways to sell the stuff.

As for the Klan thing, like I said; rumors. I don't beleive he was affiliated with them, just pointing out why it might be deemed even more offensive than what it is. At the end of the day when you take it for it's face value, a white man is defusing an 'awkward' situaion by offering a bucket of chicken to a crowd of black people. African American or not, they were never from Africa in the first place? Africa is not home of the black man?

The thing with these kinds of topics, there's no point drifting off talking about this other add or that other add, forget all that two wrongs does or does not make a right stuff, we're talking about this specific add.

Whether or not it is racist, some people have taken offence to it and I think, and in my opinion, it's rightfully so. It's controvercial, whether light hearted or not, it's not necessary.
