Jimbo's Official 2009 Draft Handbook (for those who want a quick draft summary)..

Any chances of Danny Green becoming at least a role player for the Cavs in the upcoming season mate? Also, I've heard that Austin Daye has been compared to Tayshaun Prince. Does he have the skills?

Danny Green is an awesome player mate I was kind of hoping Miami would pick him up - but I guess with their spread of SG/SF type players perhaps he would have been redundant.

The role he played for the Tar Heels was a James Posey type role - quality minutes in defending on the perimeter and knocking down open shots. His stock was hurt because he's a good athlete but not a big-time athlete in addition to the fact that he doesn't handle the ball all that well.

That being said I think he'll be a good pro - he did some good things for the team that won the national championship so he obviously can carve out a niche for himself. Anyway he's a 2nd rounder so there's no guaranteed contract there yet.

As for Austin Daye he's really unathletic. A lot more unathletic than Tayshaun Prince (who is quite athletic!). But yeah he is a very skilled player. Because he's still a bit raw and could refine his game and do with more experience I was surprised to see him go #15 he really could have gone anywhere in the first round up to number 30.

He's a real long guy, freakish wingspan and he's a 6'11 SF which sums it up. Got a sweet stroke on him and he can handle and pass the ball quite well - but atm he's really very physically weak and doesn't play great defense. Definately not what I would expect to be an NBA-ready player, I wouldn't expect him to contribute this year. To sum Daye up he's very skilled, lots of room for growth and potential but atm I believe he's too soft.

Not a bad review Jim, you picked up on some good points, =D>
but you forgot to mention how weak this draft is, like 2000 draft and many players will not play many mins and be role players at best even know there is a few special talents in the draft that have an opportunity to be stars.

Not a chance at that happening,

still hate the fact the spurs got Dejuan Blair so late even with his dodgy knees it not a risk with that late of a pick!!!!:mad::mad:

Mills must be disappointed slipping that far in such a weak draft but very PG heavy! His hand injury really hurt his draft stocks.

Love what my rockets got out of the draft with some tmac and wafer insurance in Jermaine Taylor and Chase Budinger. But was very surprised that we didn't go after Mills and got Sergio Llull instead when Mills was available(as Mills has more of an all around game, and has played more mins the last two years). Llull is like what we already have in brooks (but with a bit more size) but I suppose they can keep him overseas for a year or two or trade him (hopefully for Mills down the track).

They say that this draft is weak like the 2000 draft, but many analysts say be wary as it really isn't quite as bad as the 2000 draft.

There is still a wide array of talent in this draft so it's really quite hard to predict how good it will be.

In my opinion I don't think it's that bad as there are a number of upper-classmen and seniors who i believe are flying under the radar in terms of what they will do in the NBA. Guys like Terence Williams, Sam Young etc I all believe could be solid players.

But because they aren't overly young and don't have the hype of say a Blake Griffin or Hasheem Thabeet - they tend to be overlooked.

That being said when you have guys like DeRozan, Brandon Jennings, Rubio, Stephen Curry etc in the draft, that's a lot of talent. So right now it may not look as good as last year, or Kevin Durant's draft class or Lebron's etc - it's hard to say what they could become. Additionally it's not a TERRIBLE draft class by comparison to history. It's only bad compared to what we've had since about 2002, and what we've had from 2002 definately isn't average.

We've become accustomed to very good drafts like the 2002 (Yao, Amare, Boozer etc), 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006 etc who have all had stars, but in the 90's not every draft class was great. So this one could shape up to be okay.

In regards to Mills I don't know a lot about Sergio Llull but I do know if your comparing him with Brooks - Mills is also a very Brooks-like player. His similarities to Brooks' playing style are striking, both really not true PG's but undersized SG's who like to shoot the ball, they are more offensive minded than running sets. Quite similar in my mind, both very quick also. If you added Mills you really would have had a Brooks replica.

But a major problem is Brooks doesn't get to the line much (sure he's only had the starting job for 1/2 a season and I'm sure he'll be more experienced/comfortable next year) but Lowry does, I think Patty Mills is more like Lowry and could get to the line a lot also once he grows into his mini Brandon Roy body..... For some reason I think Brooks may be delt this year while his stocks are high, cause I think Morey will be able to find another steal of a deal. So I think we need 3 PG's, as we already play PG by committee.
Llull will be kept in Europe for a season or two (he's only 22) so I would mind us pick up Mills as the Blazers will not use him.
I mean look at Baylis he wasn't used last season and he had the best Summer league of anyone, same thing will happen to Mills and he'll be off to Europe.:(

watch out for james harden. Oklahoma will bounce back, after a sorrow 08-09 season. :)

Definately mate, OKC in my opinion may be the most talented young team in the NBA.

Westbrook, Green and Durant all have potential to become All-Stars and they just added a guy that many think has the ability to be a Brandon Roy replica.

They also added BJ Mullens - a great with crazy upside but a poor attitude and work ethic. With his kind of talent though it's worth it to give him a shot - especially since they didn't lose much for him.

I've only seen a bit of footage but i'd be interested in hearing more about Sam Young.
Predicted ~18, slips to 36???

Matt

Sam Young was plain and simply passed on STUPIDLY!

Analysts are destroying New Orleans for not drafting him at #21 when they are starting Rasual Butler (?!) and Peja is slowing down.

Quite simply Sam Young is tough.

GM's said he was the toughest player in the draft and he is also the best defender in the draft at the small forward position. He can hit the 3 ball and is very athletic.

Apparently the reason teams passed on him is because unlike other seniors he's a year older, so he's 24.

In my mind that's a stupid choice - once again showing that GM's are drafting for "potential" and "hype" instead of getting someone that is proven and ready to contribute.

Great job by the Grizz.
