Ive had a bit of a break from ebay spending, and I doubt im going back to US ebay...3 parcels this week and Ive been postage raped...

first paid $4.50US...envelope says 0.97cents
second paid $7.50US...envelope says $5.25 (global priority)
third paid $8.00US...envelope says $5.25 (global priority)

so all up I paid $20.00US for $11.47's worth

now I understand they gotta cover some costs...fair enough, but an avg of $3.00US extra??

and the global priority wasnt any faster then the 97 cents package!

and yes, Im crying over a few bucks, coz in this hobby its the difference between a bargain or not.

So how much have you been arse raped? Im sure we all have for a few thousand dollars over the last few years.

I bet you couldnt get those cards u bought in this country though...thats how I look at it. my tip is just by high end stuff from the u.s if ya payin 200u.s for a card $8 never seems so bad

I always used to get postage raped Trey. I'm alot more careful about it now and always ask for a better price. One card only costs 0.84-0.97 cents to Australia for Airmail (depending on the holder). Alot of Americans don't realise that, that's why they overcharge, but some do realise and want extra for fees and walking to the post office and waiting in line (wankers).

i have just bought a card from ebay that i have never seen on ebay before and a good chance never again, i got charged $11.50 us for the delivery for just 1 card, so i wrote a email to the seller and asked why he was charging me so much for postage and this was his responce:

Andrew,

Whoever shipped you the card for $4.00 did so against rules established by paypal. I did this before and it cost me $150.00. Paypal dictates that all items be shipped by Priority mail w/ signature confirmation. Failure to do so leaves me liable. I used to offer the common mail service. I shipped a card to Taiwan and did so to an unscrupulous individual who claims he never got it. Paypal took $150 out of my account and gave it back to him. Meanwhile, the customer kept the card (an Iverson autograph). The amount listed on your invoice is direct from ebay's calculator. I hope this adequately explains the shipping. Please reply w/ any questions.

Trey, Golabl Priority, is on the whole, quicker. With the Airmail getting there in the same time, it's probably a case of being in the right place at the right time. I've gotten an Airmail package in 2 days (thanks to USPS), and some real quick, but then again, a lot have been 6-8 days.

As for price, for $5.25 GP, $7.50 is about average for what most charge, and for airmail, $3 for 1 card (97c airmail) is max i'd pay or $4 for multiple ($1.97 airmail). It's the same as Aussie sellers charging $3 for regular mail.

But yeah, I feel for you. You get to that point where your consistently charged $4-$5 for 97c airmail, and you get really annoyed!!!

Steve 1 card sent in a bubble mailer Airmail from the US costs $1.98 or if you get it sent in a plain envelope it is $0.95c yet they consistantly charge us on average $4-5.00US to post a single card (It only takes a week to get here). that's why I attempt to negotiate postage before bidding.......I can normally get them down to about $3.00US but quite often they won't budge - it's a joke !!!

Trey - Sorry to hear of your costs incured but I am not surprised

Sounds like you better email "Bob" and tell him to make sure the envelope/package states he paid $11.50 postage for it, or it's Chargeback time!!

Oh yeah, Marty, it's like that sometimes. But..... it's usually easier to get over it, despite sometimes being able to get another coupla cards for what we're missing out on.

Technically he's correct. He's doing the right thing to protect himself. If you file a paypal claim saying you never got the card, he's at least got tracking on the card (and hence the extra he's charging you).

Most sellers send regular mail, and claim no responsibility if item is lost. However, you can file a claim with Paypal, and most times you should be successful.

yeah I understand people charging that little extra, hell I do!
but when its the little bit more excessive it all adds up...and Im really starting to wonder the benefits of global priority (ie a few days?) Im more then happy to pay $3.00 for a couple of cards...

Ive questioned all 3 sellers about it, and after their responses still left + feedback...but I just thought Id challenge em...maybe they'll drop em a tiny bit for the next person

Unless its rediculous like $15 u.s I dont have a problem payin 4-8$ for postage, its not like I can get the cards I want in Australia so its a small price to pay I think...especially when things happen like today, I paid for a card on ebay wed morn 10am it arrived 9am fri morn from the U.S thats bloody unbelievable.

As Steve (HSV) said to me, most people don't mind paying the extra on postage when you can't get the card in Australia or it still works out cheap but a lot of people use additional postage costs to make a few extra $$$ and avoid eBay fees - and that sh*ts me !!! I have not got to the point where i am willing to pay more that $5.00US for a single card to be posted to me but i am sure there will be a time when a card I want badly will cause me to waiver :angry:

If your buying a 2-300$ U.S card I can guarantee you $8-10 shipping to make sure your card arrives safely will seem like a drop in the ocean.

But Shoes, very few people on here are going for $200/$300US cards. The majority of us are getting the $1-$50US cards, where it is more of a hassle.

Richo, in the case you find a card you really like, try also getting some other cards from the seller to combine postage (and it'll work out cheaper). I've ended up doing this a few times, and is worth it. Then use the other cards as trade bait or extend your PC. Up tp you.
