Game Jersey Cards.....are they real?

Do you believe G/U Patch/Jersey cards contain real materials worn by the players?

Guys and Gals,
With thousands of game jersey cards/patches out on the market, The question I have is, how do we know we are getting the real thing? I have personally bought my fair share of Jersey/Patch cards over the years and i've often wondered this question?

I would really love to see UD and Topps to go through and show collectors how they go about acquiring these game worn items.
I am aware that some of them are purchased at auction, some directly from the NBA but I think it would be interesting to go through the process to show collectors they are getting the real thing.

Are we placing too much blind faith towards the companies in believing they are real?

I would love to hear everyones thoughts on the matter?

Cheers
Matt

yep we are putting blind faith in the card companies, but then again we put blind faith into everyone else in society: the government, police, religion etc.

what can you do?

I dont think so, I mean they get pretty low with "worn photo shoot" jerseys and all this crap...patches I believe are game worn etc, or at least off an authentic jersey of the player...but the oblivious "game worn" stuff...

if your to question gu's what about auto's as well.

the whole card industry could be one big black market scheme where the card companies just pay the players and they get a factory in china to sign the cards for em  #-o

To be honest im not a huge jersey/patch fan... im an auto person all the way.

i only collect autos also, if a patch or jersey is part of the auto card it is just a bonus.

You only had to see the Fleer auctions to see the quantities of jerseys (of all sports) that they had in stock. But we can only hold the card companies to their COA's on the backs of the cards.
But what are they worth?? Cast your mind backa few months to that $80,000 baseball quad card that had 1-2 possible fake autos. The COA doesn't hold much water then does it!!!

Exactly my sentiments im more than happy to have a nice patch attatched to a card but it needs an auto on it aswell, if you goto my photobucket I have pages of autos and autos/gameused but hardly and in the area of just Game used.

It's the other way for me.I do not have as much faith in auto's,Even though i do collect a few.
It say's on the back of UD cards that the card has been sent to UD by the player himself.I just wonder?I do hope i am wrong.

Yes,i agree.>>>>>>Did UD have stick on auto's before fleer went bust......Not that i know of.
It's worst went some idiot's get hold of leftover's of fleer blank's,so they can add what they want to it.
You have got to know how to tell what the real deal is with these cards.
The first thing i look for is a #/ed,I have bought a K Mart skybox "red" auto ,It is supposed to be #ed/25.This one showed up with no #/ing & 4 creases just to rub it in.This goes for patch's aswell.I think most fleer patch's & low print auto's are #ed.
You have got to be carefull. If you are not sure, ask an expert.
Thier's a few card detectives on this site,thank goodness.=D>

Well I have to believe that it is as real as you can get, with those Jerseys or Patches that was included in such cards.

However, I have noticed that a few Jerseys or Patches are authenticated with the memorabilia not being Game Worn, so be aware that some are Game Worn during an NBA game and some are not.

It should tell you at the back of the card. If card companies were to make false declaration, I don't think they'll exist right now to make us those beautiful cards.

And in regards to sticker autographs, I'm quite certain that Topps didn't sign million dollar contracts to Allen Iverson and Dwayne Wade for nothing.

has anyone else ever got a dirty or stained jersey card from a pack?.. I recently got a baron davis triple diamond jersey (from 04-05 black diamond the green one # to 100 a double at that) and it's the only real game used piece I've ever came across, but then a friend said it was probably from some body that packed the card.

I'll go with real. All they need is two jerseys, home and away and some warm-ups, and they're set for all their inserts for a year.

Not neccessarily, do you know how many they make of each jersey card if there is a few a box. I'm guessing they would go though quite a few jerseys each year.

I agree that the GUs are real and have been at least once by the player (ie Rookie photo shoots), but as to whether they have been used in a game situation, then if the COA on the back of the card doesn't say it has, then I'd doubt it.

they are probally real because they do have a signed authenticy statement on the back of the card, never actually read it though :)

but yer i stopped collecting game used a while ago, im all for the autos now
