nah, i meant jealous because of some of the hits ive seen so far (personally, i like the product). and that now i would never be able to bust a box, let alone a case.
i bust for the thrill of the chase, not to flip, and im jealous of all those lucky b@st@rds who got to dream of the possibilities of their unopened boxes...

First up, I'm really not a fan of the college jerseys; never have been. The NBA's decision to award Panini exclusive rights was a poor decision IMO. But that's a rant better suited for another thread...

Its a shame that sticker autos are so prevalent in a set that was so delayed. This coupled with the understandably but nonetheless sub-standard quality of the earlier players college pictures is hurts me as a guy who loves his players retro.

Also I would have liked to see players in the 1961-62, 1986-87, 1987-1988 sets originally feature in them again, not just a random collection guys; I mean seeing DRob, Hakeem and Worthy in the iconic Fleer 1961-62 design was cool, but it seemed odd to me.

Not sure if I'll grab any singles (No Mikan's in the set) but my mind is made up RE grabbing a case; its very disheartening to see the darker side of the hobby come to the fore.

On one hand it feels like Retro has been great for the hobby, while on the other, coupled with the game used authenticity issue it feels like it is on the verge of imploding. On another hand you can sympathise with Aussie sellers in the wake of eBay but on another you can see how people they hope would support them by buying goods would be upset.
Wait how many hands do I have?

Im getting very sick of seeing the same picture over and over and over again in Upper Decks products, be they Greats OTG, SP,
Fleer Retro etc. As a collector of Gervin, Ive seen the same photo of him used ad nauseum, and lo and behold in Retro theres that
same photo over and over again..I'm sure its the same with other players as well...

This is the most active I've seen this forum ever since I joined a few months back!
I had zero interest in Fleer Retro before its release as I'm a very new collector, and although my preference is for 90s players as that is the era when the basketball bug really bit me, I never did actively chase 90s inserts before.
However, I find Fleer Retro very intriguing now! So much hype, so much interest and so many crazy breaks

I have seen many cases/boxes broke here and on youtube and it seems to me a lot of the boxes tend to pull the same autos of the same rookies most times. The PMGs are nice and the price the Jordan is going for on Ebay is ludacris but I cant find myself pulling the trigger on these. I looked at the price a few weeks ago and it seemed reasonable until I saw the breaks first hand. If I had some spare cash I might be tempted but I would rather buy a cheaper product and hopefully hit something nice. Buying a box of this and getting avg hits would make me want to shoot myself haha.

Saw some bloke at Dandenong Market bust a case....... Its was great fun. He scored the Autographics Jordan auto card and a Jordan Ultra's. Overall the cards look ok.

One of the greatest speculative bubbles and herd mentality of our hobby lives will be these new PMG cards and the 08-09 PMGs. Intrinsically, these cards are worth a couple of dollars at best for the materials and cost of printing. There's two main emotions that fuels every speculative bubble and volatility in assets: greed and fear. The way I see it, there's three groups of people who are adding to the madness of the masses and herd mentality:

The primary investor:
In a flawed and non transparent auction site, it is entirely plausible and even probable to manipulate prices with a small network or group of people working in collusion to make a huge profit.

The secondary investor:
Enter the greed of the secondary investor. This group of people observe the so called "completed" sale prices of the PMGs, and the possibility of hitting a card that will sell in the thousands of dollars for their investment start pushing up the cost of boxes and cases.

There's another group of people that fall in this category, the "flippers". They see an opportunity to make money by buying "undervalued" cards and speculate that the cards will rise in value in the near future. They too contribute to the artificially inflated prices.

The card collector:
Finally, the fear of a player collector that they may never be able to get a hold of another copy of the card and mass hysteria forces these groups of people to act irrationally and push up the price as ruled by their emotions.

Amidst all of this, one has to ask, who is spending all the money? In an economic recession in the US and Europe, who are these people who are spending thousands of dollars on non essential items? Those three categories seem to cover it, but one has to wonder. Who would benefit the most from the hype and sale prices? Is Upper Deck manipulating the market with primary investors placed to push up the value of the sales and generate a huge demand for the unsold stock at hand?

Don't be a sheep. If you are one, pray that you get out of the way before the rest of your herd is led to the slaughterhouse. Food for thought.
