wayne carey was a CHF. essendon are this season showing the effectiveness of relying on one focal point up forward. lynch was a pretty effective forward, but the midfield carried most of the load, they didnt rely mostly on him to win matches, like essendon do with lloyd. tredrea is more of a CHF, he leads well outside the 50.

anyway, the point i was making is going way off tangent here, i was talking about how the classic role of a FF is becoming obsolete in the modern game, and the top teams in the league are demonstrating this with their team structure and style of play. i think that much is pretty obvious. the days of the locketts, dunstals, modras, lloyds are over.

lloyd is still a 50+ goal kicking forward.. thats probably twice the ammount given by our whole midfield combined.. how can you say his day is over at ff? tell me the last few goal kickers that lead the leauge in goals, and name their positions?

wouldnt be because of the 2001 prelim final is it? or because leigh mathews last game ended in tears? or the game blumfield kicked a goal, but it really hit the post and we won by a point? or because the day dermie told you to draw the line we came out and blew you away?

The Blumfield one, the Prelim final and you forgot the Solomon one... proves how far up the arse umpires are/were with Essendon... well no the AFL for not having the guts to do something about it.

It's not even that. It's just Hawthorn V Essendon = hatred... thats what I been groomed into as a Hawthorn fan.

And we deserved to be blown away in that line in a sand game... cos we didn't play the ball.... but I did enjoy seeing some Essendon players get what they would give out though.

I just like to see a certain few teams lose those teams are Essendon, Port, Carlton and Collingwood oh and Melbourne becuase of the piss weak membership that voted for the merger that Hawthorn members had the gall NOT to allow to happen. That was such a low weak act of Melbourne members... man they needed to have more faith in their team colours.

I think i will start too...cause it seems to be working.

The full forward of the modern game is not as important as in the past...ie. Lockett, Dunstall etc. Look at the crows, Roo was/has been their go too forward for the first part of the season and was leading the goal kicking before being injured. And he is normally a midfielder!!!

Also, you are having a go a Neitz because he is "ineffective". He like Lynch, Tarrant can be very effective on their day but otherwise they create opportunities for the smaller player like Davey, Leon Davis and Aker of old. They also generally take the best forward which normally allows players like Robbo, Rocca etc to kick goals on lesser backs!

a coleman medal very rarely translates into a premiership though. lloyd did it in 2000 but apart from that theres no real value in having a gehrig, lockett, modra who kicks 120 goals a year because it doesnt lead to a premiership. same as the nba, teams like detroit, spurs, suns are the best because they have so many scoring options and dont rely on one player to score 40ppg.

hawthorn = no threat.. no or in the past...

essendon to hawthorn however it would be much much different.. a team they havent beaten since when (apart from last year).. cmon i hold no grudge.. but spose, when you dont beat someone for so so long, you tend to hate them
