I think everyone takes a NRL players accessibility for granted.
Who would want to put on a happy face for 100s of people after a s*** day at work?
It sucks for the fans but its understandable imo.
Definitely! You know ... if my team lost like Parra did on the weekend and I saw them around after the game laughing it up with supporters, I'd actually be sorta disappointed!!!
As for the tragedy for the kids mentioned in this thread ... I remember when I was a kid, I used to go to loads of Wellington and international cricket games, in the days when you could run onto the field to get autographs when the game or innings ended (in fact I think I even ran onto the field during a test once to get a Pakistan player's sig ... I got mad coz he was ignoring me, so I just jumped the fence and went up and tapped him on the shoulder! ).
Aaanyway, heaps of the players would just race off the field and not sign ... sometimes you'd see them later and they wouldn't sign ... I remember my brother waited probably half an hour in a huge queue to get Martin Crowe's autograph once and Crowe ditched the kids before the line ran out, my bro was next in line and he got into an argument with Crowe who said he had to go to the loo! But anyway, it never made me support these teams or players any less, or turn me off the sport or anything. We would be joking about it about it a few minutes later about the player must have been in a bad mood or something. Sometimes I think these things get blown out of proportion and we forget that the players have their own lives and priorities.
Actually, in those days it might have helped, because you got a bit more access to the players during the game, you could see they were exhausted and gutted if they lost when they came off the field, etc ...
