Hey all,
Im a huge fan of Dwight, have been following him through all his moves.
Seems a genuinely nice guy, with some personality which is rare in the modern sports person.

My question is, why is he hated by so many? Fans, Players etc?
I get Kobe, but with Durant apparently having a crack at him also....
I dont get the hate?

Ps anyone selling any of his sig cards pm me ;)

Few reasons I can't stand him:
  • Asking for Coach SVG to be fired straight to the media after going 52-30 following by another winning season - don't air that stuff!
  • He's arrogant. He told Orlando fans to 'roll the dice' on his free agency despite less than 12 months earlier saying his heart and sole was in Orlando
  • He makes stupid decisions, and never seems to be accountable for them (calling his magic team mates "rejects that no one wanted")
  • He asked the Lakers to Amnesty Kobe Bryant on the spot, even tho in 2011 he's quoted as saying Kobe would be the No 1. player he could play with if he had a choice
  • He's complained that the Magic have not already retired his jersey (see arrogant)
  • He has as many as 8 kids to 6 women (see poor decision making)
  • He "allegedly" flew a 16 year old girl out to meet him on the road last season and stay with him (if true, also see poor decision making)
  • He's can't make a decision, he changes his mind more often than Melbourne Weathermen
  • Dwight and James Harden apparently eat alone at their own table in Houston, with no other team mates allowed to join them (as told by Chandler Parsons after Harden took parting shots at him leaving)

@nichj99 that is one of the best posts Ive ever read.

Nailed it.

I personally hate how poorly he dragged out his free agency period, unneccisarily turning it into a much bigger circus than it needed to be.

People ripped on LBJ for going to MIA, but at least it was rather swift in comparison to Dwight.

My feeling tho, is that many MANY players do the same thing, as what you have listed and dont get the same backlash, or as much play in the media. not to mention alot of that is 'alleged' and internet talk and nothing more.
I still feel he would have stayed in Orlando if pieces were put around him.... Not to mention Kobe seems to be a god amongst men yet no one wants to play with him... wonder why?

Cos Kobe is a selfish player/person who demands anyone who plays with him to work around him, not the other way around, no matter how huge the potential of the player may be. I wouldn't want to play with him after being the man in another team either.

I challenge you to name one player who has done all those things or very similar things for each of @nichj99 examples...

You can start with Kobe if you like, because you say that you understand why players hate him.

For the record, I hated Dwight during free agency because I thought he was childish and unprofessional in his approach, but besides that I kinda liked him. Until I read Nich's list:) Now I dont like him that much any more.

Hahah thats fair enough. dont get me wrong i can see how he can rub people the wrong way but to the extent of other players hating him i just dont see.
Lerbons going, then coming back is a joke. and shows how fickle cav fans are!

He's a good player, apparently the "best" centre in league (I don't actually think this), but he can certainly make some poor decisions.

I used to be a big Dwight fan up until the free agent antics where he came off as really douchey. Since then he hasn't done a lot to redeem himself in my eyes. As a player tho he is great to watch & a genetic freak.

I was also a bit of a fan until said time. He handled it all very poorly and seemed to not learn from any of it

Dan Fegan is Dwight Howard's agent. Fegan did not want Howard signing with Houston, in fact he tried to convince him to sign with Dallas as Fegan is chummy with Mark Cuban. Part of the demands Fegan set to allow Howard to sign there was to let Chandler Parsons out of his contract early, and in turn gave Cuban the first opportunity to woo him as a free agent for an earlier than expected pay day. The Rockets agreed, with the intention to match any offer on Parsons - however they felt the price tag was more than what he was worth.

So in summary, Houston got Howard but lost Parsons because of Fegan's need to keep his "friends" happy.

I do think Fegan is a very good agent, and feel that he was always trying to play the "what did Dwight just say?" game.

interesting!! havent heard that one before! id hate for my manager to be looking out for a mate over me as the client!

Well, it gets more interesting:
Parsons sacked his previous agent a week before Howard became a free agent, signed with Fegan and then called and texted Howard every day to lobby and convince him to sign with Houston. Apparently, Fegan used Parsons contract status as leverage - promising him an early pay day once it became known that Houston was the preferred destination from Howard, there for able to offer Parsons to the Mavericks in return for them not getting Howard.

Makes you think how much is going on behind closed doors we don't hear about, and how much pull agents have within each organization!

Bloody hell it really does!
Fegan doing that knew no matter where dwight signed would be for max, so getting the best deal for Parsons was the harder job...

Yeah he dogged SVG big time and then left. He stated for ages that there was no reason for him to leave ORL and then he demanded a trade. So painful.

I just think he's a young immature goofball. I can't stand him.

Now he's getting everything he wanted, another first round exit and no championships.
