Ok, been away for a fair while, 2 weeks in Thailand and then working heaps pre-xmas so as my first post for awhile I thought I'd start out early and post some short ratings of some movies I have seen recently, without giving away much of the story.
Bee Movie - Jerry Seinfeld as a bee! Great cartoon for kids and adults, but prob not the best out there. The actor who plays Puddy on Seinfeld and Joe on Family Guy (his name escapes me for the moment) is a standout, absolutely hilarious. The Ray Liotta story line is gold too! 6.5/10
3:10 To Yuma - Christian Bale and Russell Crowe are superstars. If you like westerns then this is the one for you, I don't really (except for Young Guns, "Mount Up") but this is a cool story with great acting from the 2 aforementioned names as well as Ben Foster (this guy is great). 7.5/10
Alpha Dog - Pretty good movie with Justin Trousersnake based on a true story about a young drug dealer on the top of the FBI's most wanted list. JT plays a very likeable character and does it pretty well. Bruce Willis and Sharon Stone are amongst the cast and once again Ben Foster steals the show as the crazy nazi brother. 6.5/10
American Gangster - Denzel is the man! This movie was freaking awesome! He and Russell Crowe do great jobs of portraying their characters and it is very cool seeing the rise of Denzel's character and the takedown of the corrupt cops. See this movie! 8.5/10
Heartbreak Kid - Typical Farrelly bros stuff here, not quite as good as Something About Mary, prob more on par with Along Came Polly, but very funny nonetheless. 6/10
Eastern Promise - Very violent and gritty portrayal of Russian mafia. Mortenson and Watts are pretty good, but Vincent Cassell is great as always. Intense stuff. 7.5/10
Black Snake Moan - Whats not to like, Sam L. and a naked Christina Ricci running around through out the movie. Enjoyed the story and the acting. Trousersnake makes another appearance and seems to have a bit of talent in other areas other than pop music. 8/10
Death Proof - Tarantino is awesome! The intro went on a bit long, but I presume this was to increase the length of the movie after the Grindhouse trial was cut in 2. Kurt Russell is perfect as the psychotic stuntman, and the ending is one of the best I've seen in a long time. Pure entertainment! 8.5/10
Beowolf - Saw a dodgy version, but at the same time it had some awesome animation. I'll def be watching a better copy soon. Very tongue in cheek and cool retelling of the story with some pretty sick battle scenes. 7/10 (only coz my copy was dark in bits otherwise prob would have been a higher rating)
