It's funny you ask. I've got a custom made cabinet coming this Thursday!
My Father in Law made it for me.
He made us one for our DVDs, and I asked for a 2nd for my cards.
It's about 6 foot high and about 3 foot wide. Has 6 shelves on it.
Not sure if I'll put glass doors on it or just leave as is.
All I need is a hook up with some stands... Anyone got any they can sell?
Glass doors cut down on the dust heaps Mavs and I'd recomend getting them. Just be careful as the unit will be front heavy then ;-)
I can hook you up with the stands too finally.
If i had my way each wall would have glass door shelves on them with UV coating displaying everything so I don't have to revolve what I have out on display ;-D
Anyone able to post a photo of their displays. I know a "chippie" in my town that could put something together for me if I could sketch up a plan. Would a light in the cabinet damage the cards??
I wonder if you could use a picture frame with a bigger space between the front glass and the backing and install some shelves into it. That would be a pretty neat way to store cards and could be put up just about anywhere. There are probably pieces of furniture suitable for the task, but glass (preferably UV coated) is a definate bonus as dust buildup is a nightmare!
A light in the case shouldn't be a big issue, you would want a very low wattage lamp and it would depend on how well your indiviual card holders block out the UV radiation.
Doc the Bro made one of those. Its like a box frame with small shelve with grooves for the cards on them. The front is hinged with light weight but tuff UV coated glass and it hangs on a wall. Its got four shelves from memory and holds about 50 cards.

It's on the drawing boards at the moment but I have had a very similar idea to the M.Jordan & Metallica frame with the drum skin I have pictured below, but with a secured McFarlane Figure in the middle or signed piece of Memorabilia and high end jersey's and auto's surrounding it. Overall thickness is 5cm of the Metallica frame, so anything is possible.
I did this with my Adam Scott cards and signed ball which I got. It came up pretty well and sits about an inch out from the wall. I also have a Tiger Woods one similar but has a pic with a signed ball.
funny u ask that question i am a cabinetmaker myself and was one day not long ago fitting out a jeweller shop and i asked the owner what are u doing with these old display cabinets, used to have jeweller in them u prob no the type class all round 1400mm long 400mm high 550mm deep with a nice timber base on it so i took one home put felt in the bottom of it cut some timber lenghts groved on the top on an angle so the cards in there cases stand upright on a nice angle really looks good with the cards in it...
anyway try to get a photo up soon just to give u an idea..
cheers redd#22
Seeing as though we are showing off displays, here is one I got custom made about 5 years ago. Its got a Dominique signed photo, with his Fleer RC and a Legendary Signatures card. I had planned to get a few others done, but have never got around to it.
