Curse of the top prospect signature

http://thepublicapology.wordpress.com/2011/05/27/rugby-league-cards-depreciating-in-time-analyst/
Here is an article that I have found and I have heard it all before. The wife wants to throw it out and the guy is right in time this will go up in value. I predict that everything will rise in good times and fall in bad that is not rocket science. Never the less give it time it will go up in value. The market is made on supply and demand. By Dynamic flooding the market it dropped the value of there cards. Esp sounds like they will to, with 4 sets being issued next year this will drain the market and some collectors will give in. If they release 4 sets I believe this will collapse the market which will depreciate there value like dynamic . I hope I am proved wrong in a big way. When a item of collectible is issued and is oversupplied it will eventually go up in value it may take 100 yrs as the population grows and more collectors enter the same market and are wanting the same collectible then it is inevitable. It is just a matter of time. It may be a long time.

Ever heard of inflation??

I'm not trying to be a smartass but having studied and worked in fields related to economics for 15 years I know a little about this stuff.;)

Also - just because something is old, or rare, does not mean it is valuable.

Those cards from the 60s/70s/80s are collectable now because there wasn't really a collectable market for them at the time.

As a bulldogs fan I have collected most of the signature cards select has released and nothing has frustrated me more than looking at my collection to have nearly all players leaving the club soon after:

I know exactly what you mean

2000 Jason Smith went to the raiders
2001 Brett Hodgson went to the Tigers
2002 Daniel Irvine went to the Rabbits
2003 Ashley Graham went to the Cowboys
2004 Michael Witt went to manly
2005 Tim Smith went to the UK
2006 YEAAAAAH Ben Smith is still with us
2007 Joel Reddy went to the Tigers
NO 2008
2009 Kris Keating went to the Bulldogs
NO 2010
2011 Justin Horro looking as if he will go to the storm or panthers??????

People did not understand the market then but Scanlens named them collectible cards on there boxes we tend to buy with our eyes and not read descriptions. A lot of people buy cards on ebay through pictures and not by reading the description I have done this myself. I dont want to sound rude but what do you call those people that keep them in good condition and collected them back then. Sorry I hope we are only talking about rugby cards here.

My uncle duxed syd uni at accountancy and now works at a high level in your state treasury department I think I have heard a little about inflation

Wow - if you have an uncle that's an Accountant that means you MUST be right!

Always got to take shit so personally every time someone does not agree with you. God forbid someone other than yourself is right.

International finance by the way....

You musn,t have liked the way I have explained myself

Moz, you did not actually give any explanation just gave a link to some dribble about beer coasters and told me your uncle is an Accountant.

You made the sweeping statement that EVERYTHING goes up in value which has no factual basis what so ever.

If $1 twenty years ago is worth $2 today and a card that was $1 is now worth $1.50 has it gone up in value??? No - its gone backwards 25% - thats inflation.

And then you talk about supply and demand with ESP cards but you shoot down Hobo when he has the same thought about some immortals that sign everything put in front of them.

If you going to shoot everyone down at least have some facts to back your assertions up.
