this is crap i reckon... cousins ran into buddy's shoulder. buddy didnt connect him with an elbow at all

harsh penalty i thought...

i would have to disagree. When i saw it i laughed being a West Coast supporter but i think Buddy deserved every bit of the 2 weeks. It knocked him out as well! I can't see how you can't get a suspension for elbowing a player high and knocking him out.

i didnt see the bump on cousins, but ill comment on the 2 weeks he should of just kept it at one week why risk a two game ban, if the hawks are to win this week without buddy they would of gone into an elimination final with him but now if they win this week they have nothing either way. the hawks do not have another tall forward now.

yeh your right mate. No Roughead, No Franklin, they are going to struggle up forward. Cyril and Williams have to save them. 3 or 4 each will do the trick

Franklin had options and chose to barrel him... probably didn't mean to get him in the scone though! The precedent was set with the Maxwell bump on the young West Coast fella early in the year. Four weeks for what we used to call a fair hip and shoulder.

Here's the more relevant question: how can there be such a gargantuan loophole in the rules that says you will get two weeks' suspension for an incident that will not even draw a free kick?

It was a game changing passage that resulted in two goals to the Hawks. Why is the tribunal rubbing out guys while the freaks in white/red/canary yellow call "play on"?

That broke McGinnity's jaw and he was out for a long time

Very true... that play resulted in a HAWTHORN free kick and two HAWTHORN GOALS :blink:

Hawks are crap anyway... Essendon should just put them and their crap season out of misery this week.

Come on, only one win in five weeks and it was against 15th... clearly not finals material right now.

...but just wait till Ellis has a full pre-season next year:D

We were in 12th spot when we beat them:blink:

if you look at it properly from all angles, you will clearly see the the first point of contact is actually cuzzy's chin hitting buddy's shoulder blade, the very essence of a hip and shoulder bump... so imo i think the penalty was harsh... the game is over-adjudicated and friggin soft that it is overly ridiculous... the guys who played in previous eras must be just shaking their heads or simply laughing at the netball-like umpiring of our great game

if he connected with elbow to head, then yeh fair enough an even harsher penalty would have been warranted

Down the middle, legit shirtfront, for mine. Didn't warrant a suspension at all. I'm not sure whether it was fully taken into account (though you would hope so) that Cousins lost control of the ball and almost lunged into Franklin.

The person saying Franklin had options - watch it in real time. Once Cousins changes direction, Franklin gets less than a second to weigh up these "options".

if you watch it properly he clearly makes a move to hit him when he should of tackled, and did have other options, cuz did not move into him he moved away. you may think im being biased but he definately deserved 1 not 2 but his fault for contesting charge. and didnt maxwell end up getting off with no weeks?

and didnt maxwell end up getting off with no weeks?

He got four weeks initially, which was a joke, but got off on appeal, I believe.

I don't think you can really accurately compare the two incidents. Maxwell actually ran past the ball to collect the WCE kid. Franklin's incident was in the play.

nah Maxwell ended getting 4 or something weeks. Poor McGinnity missed a while
