you need to stay away from daewoo lanos stevo. we also just bought a holden barina, was very happy with customer service up until we got the car but have had nothing but problems since:( all holden does is make excuses[-X .

if i had my time over i would have gone with a pulsar or something similar.

p.s. you must have won too much at the casino=D> =D> =D>

my partner bought a holden cruze.. very very good on the fuel, very compact and is enough for her to get from a to b and still kinda own the road... i like it myself..

Thanks for the help lads...being a holden fanatic ide suggested the barina..but your not the first person to say ..BEWARE!!!
Afraid they dont make the cruze anymore and pretty much decided to get brand new...
At this stage the toyota yaris looks to be a goer (pic below)

A friend of mine got the Peugeot 206 recently. It's pretty zippy and has great handling for a girl's car. It starts at around $16 500 I believe and looks better than the Yaris.. Choose wisely Stevo, there can be only one..

Ta... lads... the more info the better i say.... spotted a swift today look ok for a matchbox:lol:
Cheer funk ill check that car out asap for sure...=D>

Dont think fuel economy is high on the wifes pririty list...
Basically if its cute and a nice colour she wants it !!

Stevo, stay away from:
Any Holden badged Euro-trash, e.g. Astra/Barina
Ford Fiesta
Any Daewoo

nothing but problems with these cars. Nissan or toyota seem to be the way to go with a small car really.

Thanks brad.... the toyota looks a goer for sure...either not worth touching and the others she didnt like the body shape...
Now comes the haggling next week to get the best price..

toyota is a good choice. We've had lots of problems with Astra's/Barina's lately at work, can also be extremely costly for some out of warranty repairs.
Don't spend too much on extra's, lol, extra's are how the dealership makes their money from new cars, that and servicing. You only have to take the car back to the dealership for it's first checkover etc. You can take it to your mechanic for regular servicing as long as they use the right filters/parts. Don't listen to what the Salesmen tell you, lol. Also, don't buy an extented warranty, they're worth jack when it comes to claiming for anything ;). But don't let me tell you what to do! lol. Just some helpful advice Stevo

Na mate appreciate the advice...didnt realise i had to take the car back to them for the first service !!
Ide planned on hitting an auto 1 store for seat covers, floor mats etc,,im all to aware of there overpriced extras:lol:
Just hope she treats this new car with a bit of respect...ie if she smokes in it ill KILL HER !![-X

Dont worry...the wife may be getting a new car but im upgrading to a bigger remote truck....thses hpi buggies are massive( 900mm) and stock without upgrades can easily reach 80kph....

my 2 cents

i was a mechanic for 11 years, 6 with Mazda and 5 with Holden. Without a doubt Mazda is a 10 times better built car. This is just one example, @ Mazda i replaced a total of 3 power steering pumps and @ Holden on average i would replace 3 p/s pumps a week. I would never go past the new Jap cars, Holden have way to much trouble (the Astra isn't to bad). I have now worked for a insurance company for the last 2 years that sells extanded warranties, our main 4 clients are Holden, Subaru, Land Rover & Peugeot. Subaru by a mile have the least amount of claims on them. Holden have the most claims by a mile. Land Rover have to much go wrong with them for a so called prestige car and Peugeot not a real bad car but have alot go wrong with at low kms and believe me they are not cheap to repair. One of the guys i work with his brother in law is the head design engineer at Toyota Australia, he took us for a drive in the new Camry @ $28000 i don't think you could by a car with better build quailty.

Cheers andrew...nice to get some info from some1in the game...
Pretty much confirms some of what ive already heard..
Just hope she picks the right 1 after all my research!!

Steve - apart from recommending the Peugeot 206 we also have a Toyota........it's 9 years old now and has never had a problem.....if you go for the Toyota I would say it would be a good move. VERY reliable cars !

Ye remembered that richo...when i checked out the 206.....servicing and parts did tend to be a bit more pricey for the euro cars i was told.....Did you take it back to a dealer for servicing bud ?

my partner and i are getting a mazda 3 at the start of next year, very good on fuel. im pretty sure thats under 20 grand now mate..up to you hope it all goes well :)
