There are laws out there but no one will take action unless they get too big and start to annoy the major players.

I would like to publicly apologise to the ebay seller I wrongly identified as the producer of the Topps bootleg cards, so to Golden Point Autographs I am very sorry as the actual seller has notified me and they are point-blank-records, a similarity in the name and I have defamed an innocent party.

Could some one define the term "Bootlegging" in terms of trading cards please

the reason i ask is because i made a mock up of an eels card as i am trying to keep my mind occupied while quitting smoking, the wife liked it and asked me to do a tigers card, it was liked and then another was asked for, so on and so on, so i just designed a whole set, now this set has been requested by about at least 15 people does that make me a bootlegger????
my intention to start with was to just design something and have a bit of fun but now if i were to have (say) 20 sets printed i would have to charge what it cost me to have them made up (properly too not the home printer stuff either) or trade for cards of an agreed value........would that make me a bootlegger

or is a bootlegger someone who prints them of totally for financial gain

This is totally different as you are doing them for the Ozcard community and not flogging them off on eBay
You have nothing to worry about

Not all collectors frequent these pages!!

The point I was making was that those that are putting them on eBay are looking to make a buck not help other collector's out... I'm sure that the eBay seller isn't going to put them on for cost price.. I'm no expert this is just an opinion

But in my personal experience the above quote is incorrect!!
There are those, like Dave who do
It for the passion of collecting and sell on eBay to share the love at cost or less than cost....

So it looks like some guys on Ozcardtrader have opinions of

If a member was to produce a card or set or sets for his/her love of the sport and collecting in general and spread the cost of his/her time and production costs from their source of printer,then as long as he/she had a buy it now price of the set up costs to cover each set say $15, $25, $50 or whatever the over all set up and production costs for the complete run divided by the amount of sets in the run which would determine the sell price of a set,then this is ok and happy days?

on the other hand, if he/she for example was to place on ebay at a start price of the set up cost per set or less and take a chance that the item may not sell or sell at the opening bid which may be less than the production cost minus ebay fees on the other hand the set could sell for more than the opening bid and even the actuall cost of production.Then this is a no no ? should he/she just put a buy it now price just above the over all production costs to cover ebay and pay pal fees for example so that he/she should not end up out of pocket? but of course he/she could still end up left with everything in hand and the whole cabuddle out of pocket.I suppose that would be the risk he/she would be prepared to take for their love of the sport and collecting.

Just a question because it appears from what I can see on this thread that some members appear to have double standards!

Just an observation of what it looks like to me, of course that is just my opinion, I may be wrong but I don't think I am viewing it through beer goggles.
nor am I suggesting anyone else is

I would have some Dave, no worries at all, and that would go for anyone else who may have something to offer the collecting scene

I think we can all make up our own minds if we would want to purchase something and accept that not everyone would want some items that we would want and some would only want the official stuff and in their eyes they would be right and there is nothing wrong with that

well 3 words in each but not really that similar, I bet GPA would have been well p****d if he found out, especially as you bagged the authenticity of his/her autographed items he/she sells, whooops

I'm not saying that it is right or wrong if you sell them on eBay or not.. honestly from where I stand when it comes to fake/unofficial cards is if they look good and they're not ridiculously priced then I will buy them...
I'm only saying that there's no reason to be against people making and then selling or trading fake cards that they are are not stating are real and aren't making money out of it...

Finally... in my opinion it's great to see Dave (#1 eels fan), matt26 and Girds making these cards and I wish I had the talent and ability to do so.
and that also makes me happy to buy the cards from them if they are willing to sell and not be afraid of been blamed for bootlegging

I'm not trying to start any arguments I just hope to see more cards lIke these

As ive said before....the cards I make are for my own PC or in the rare instance, ill make a card for someone that i know will reside in their PC.

I reckon i could make some decent coin from these cards below if i made them for the right players......but i know as soon as you start to make a commercial gain you run the risk of getting in trouble which i dont want.

These are in my PC but i could see how people may be tempted to make cards like this to make a profit!
