Australia Post... daylight robbery it feels like

So went to send some cards to pdxjedi in the US today. The same amount I could easily send for $1.20 here.

Cost me $10.50... its insane how much Aus post charges, daylight robbery if you ask me!

I am going to have to seriously rethink trading with overseas people simply because I cannot afford the postage! I was expecting to pay $5 tops... so you can imagine my surprise, plus prices are going up too!

If it is in a normal size padded envelope and weighs under 50gms, it is $2.35 to post!

Not sure how they entered it in?? But I pay $2 - $3 for a single card!

it weighed 105 grams to post in the small sized padded mailer.

Cost me normally $3.60 for postage to the US for about 4 jersey cards.... after that it just sky rockets !!!!!!!!!

105 grams is quite a fair bit of card, depending on thickness of card, could easily be 20 - 30 cards

well I guess I can stic to small trades, but anything requiing too many cards is too rich for my blood

11 cards, patch cards included, split into two, surrounded by two toploaders each. I just got such a shock. I totally undercharged for postage lol

I've learnt my lesson, never trade base cards overseas, just too expensive.

4 top loaders would make it too heavy. If you want to stay within the 50gms limit, max can only be 2 top loaders

i was also told by my local PO that with packages like that its better and cheaper to send 2 small packages

Wish she had told me that, she was not very helpful I may go that way next time! Appreciate the feedback though

Depends on the post office, the local one at Marsden run by an Asian family who seem to have trouble communicating refuse to accept my cards in a bubble mailer with the customs dec to send as a small parcel misc, that way its only a few bucks. They want to send it as some sort of a package that does not require a customs doc but costs 8-9 dollars. Needless to say that I don't go there any more.

Just cost me $23.25 to send a card to the US, it was insured with tracking though. Still bloody pricey. For a signature at the other end was like $50!! Wtf!

Just sent 2 cards to the US, 2 separate addresses, each card in a small bubble envelope inside the registered post international envelope. Comes with a "tracking number", with $100 cover as well. Only $13.20 each.

I traded about 25-30 jersey cards and put then in a large padded envelope to the point it looked like paper work (really fat paper work lol) and just slabbed on 2 x $2.35 and put it in the post bin, i never give to the post as they charge a arm and leg and it made it fine.
I normally just just put on what the actual cost of the envelope is and not base it on weight and i havent had problems yet, sent a fair few that last one weighed like a kilo LOL

yep cost me $23 to send a card last week to the US isured and registered.

I just moved back to the city and finding a post office that is friendly and helpful is going to take some time.... Where I was in the country it was always great service and very helpful.

it helps to get an estimate on what your sending beforehand so you dont get stung with high prices.... been there.....

does anyone else find it funny that we all complain about paying up to $5 to send 10 cards across the biggest Island Nation in the world! hahaha

I know we all make our expectations based on what we are used to, but even $1.20 to send a couple of cards from me (Perth) to someone on the east coast is a BARGAIN!

If someone bought something from me off Gumtree or similar, and said they would give me $1.20 to deliver to a location that was closer than my local post box, I would....... politely decline! hahaha

The thickness of the item generally ha a BIG result on the cost, so even if you have to get a bigger mailer, probably worth it so it's not as thick.
