Anyone from Brisbane get the new $2 doller coin

Ah I see, I know that Brisbane had the chance to exchange for the coin in queen street mall, but isn't there 2million set for circulation nation wide?

I think we're talking about different coins. There are two different coloured $2 coins which have been released in Australia. I think you're probably talking about the purple coronation coin, of which there were 2 million released. This is a 2013 minting and actually the second coloured $2 coin circulated in australia. Also worth checking if the exchange you speak of was for an uncirculated (c marked) version of the coloured coin. I imagine it probably was.

The first coloured coin released in Aus was a 2012 minted $2 coin minted for rememberance day which had a coloured red poppy on the face. Incidentally this was also the first time an Aussie $2 coin had been given a special commemorative design (normally $1 or 50 cent coins are used for this purpose). There were only I think 400 thousand or so of the coloured version of this coin released into circulation. There were, however, a run of millions of the same design in standard gold/brass colour released (normal run size). This coloured coin is the one i thought we were talking about and is the rarer and more valuable coin.

Both coloured coins come in a circulated and uncirculated form (mint marked "c"). It's also worth noting that plenty of coins released into circulation will probably never appear in anyone's change as the people who work in the places they are distributed to will exchange them with their own money out of floats knowing they are collectible.

Also the rememberance coin is still available from mint and most post offices for $12.95. The coronation coin that was exchanged was not the c mark but the ones set for circulation. Brisbane won the right to hold this event over adelaide through an online poll
