Re: Anyoffers on a 2003 Scanlens Darren Lockyer Signed by Darren himself at a book la
Personally I think each to there own. I enjoy collecting signed cards. I get commons and low end inserts signed. My PC is based around signed base sets. I am only one card away from finishing a complete signed 2010 champions base set. I wouldn't get #'d cards or rare cards signed. I saw somewhere that someone had a locker jersey card with an IP sig. Even to someone like me who loves signed cards, I thought it was insane and ruined a great card. I had a great chat with Gasnier once about it and he doesn't have a problem with signing for fans. It's rude people who are in it for the $$$ that pisses him off. He also didn't want to devalue his full sig, so it was still valuable for his foundation/charity work.
I have had players look at my collection and tell me stories of how they collected as kids. And sone still do. There was an instance where I was talking to Michael Weyman and Dean young, they signed a few cards for me and saw some old Sailor and Bennett 94 cards and then started telling stories of pulling gold cards in 94.
I would say out of all the cards I have had signed there is only a couple if times a player has been rude to me and that's because the guy before me handed them 10+ cards.

My close friend was in Canberra early in the year and Inglis was staying right next to him in the hotel.... They ended up having breakfast together and my friend could not wait to send me pics.... Dave Taylor was there as well but my friend does not collect signed items and the picture was enough for him....

Go back a little 1963 Scanlens signed with a biro back then each sold around 500 to 900 each card about 6 months ago on ebay and to say they loose value is totally wrong ! You personally dont collect that sort of stuff but others do !
Sorry to upset some people !
If you think cards can be signed anytime well go and do it i bet u cannot do it ! Sounds simply but u cant, simply its not true Darren does not come very often to sydney so to say he comes to our pub and walk down the street is not true !
Anyway what do u know Ben stick to AFL mate maybe down there the mexicans walk the street or go to pubs everyday well done mate !
i'm still amazed people do this to cards, and that some actually think it adds value.
anyone can sign a card, whether it's at a book launch or at the pub, walking down the street even,
so to think it adds value is silly, it can be done anytime, but i bet you won't find that #d card mint again
actually, that would be fun, convince everyone to get their cards signed so I will have the only mint one left in exsistence!
so thanks for that!
