Do you think I am expecting too much???

This is what happened-

After spending the time going through 3000+ cards and putting a full list in my for sale thread I had a few members contact me. After going through and finding a player for a collector. I found about 10 of this players cards I was offered 33 cents each and the collector only wanted 3 cards. Now I know they may be base but when people go out of there way to do the list and then search for the cards am I on the wrong track but at the mininum I thought I might get $1 a card (to make it worthwhile). So instead of going to the trouble of trying to help other collectors out by putting up a huge list of lesser sought after players (in some cases) I am removing the giant list of players I had in the for sale thread and I will keep out the more prominent players and the rest can go in the garbage bin. I will keep the other part of the for sale thread and I guess to avoid further dissapointment on my part I will have to put prices on everything.I will not name the the collector as I do not think it is right, and I hold nothing against them as everyone wants to get things for as little as possible but I just don't think some people think about how some people are going out of there way for them.

But to the other collectors who contacted me I will do the right thing and let you know what I have before the trip to the rubbish.

Thanks

geeez, you complain alot, i would have just sent the cards for free!!!!! they are base cards for god sake.................i think 90% of the people on this board would have just asked for an address and sent them with a $1 stamp on a bubble mailer

So for example if we had 100 members and 90 of them asked me for cards, at $1 Postage and $1 for a bubble mailer. That would be a nice cost to me of $180.00. I hope you don't run a bussiness. So I complain alot well I don't think so, I put forward my opinoin, ask a question or 2. But I guess the world is not a perfect place, and I just think I was trying to do the right thing and insted of just chucking these BASE cards out I thought why not try and help out fellow collectors. But I guess as you have put forward so clearly I should just keep my opinions to myself. So I will do this from now on.

Thanks

dude, to put it simply i just thought you sounded like a 2 year old.

you pretty much said "if i can't get money for them then i will just chuck them in the bin so no one can have them"

i know for a fact that i have sent free cards to people on these boards atleast 50 times and in most cases i have received something back in return , whether it be 1 week later or 3 months later.................it is called karma mate, what goes around comes around.

and yes i do run a successful business and can guarantee that my business supports my family easily and have built up a large wealth of assets.

i doubt giving away a couple of cards here and there is going to break the bank, but hey it's your choice, i just don't know why you have to make a heated thread about it:confused:

Justin...i do think you are being a bit harsh...but i would agree with you and i have also in the past sent free cards to members....

In saying that, i was looking to get some Hoops base cards from you earlier this month and you quoted that there were over $200BV of cards?? Is this what you were expecting or only taking the piss??

Hmmmm.....

Understand where you're coming from AJ..... and you do seem like you understand where other people are coming from wanting things for as cheap as possible (I for one would not pay more than 10c per card for base - unless was premium base like finest or really recent cards)

But I also think suggesting you oughtta just throw the base away because one collector didn't wanna pay $1 per card for the three cards does seem a lil dramatic, which I think is what solicited Spree fans response... which I also think was a little over the top.... granted maybe its just a case of not quite understanding what you are saaying..... I for one think if you are gonna throw all your base away I'll give you postage and you can send them all to me... lol

dvs, i mean benny;)

i think i am correct in saying that there was well over $200 beckett value in what you wanted, i never asked you for $200 and since you never responded i never bothered asking for a figure.

i think there is a huge difference between giving away 3 base cards and pretty much the entire 04-05 hoops history and rc's that you needed..................by the way they are still sitting here for ya if you want to do a deal:)

i agree with spree fan. its all about helping others out. if all base cards were worth $1 what would boxes be selling for? geez some gu cards sell for a $1. i could understand if it was mj we were talking about, but for a run of the mill player why don't you just send the cards for free. say if a member needed one card to complete a set what would you charge then $10, sometimes you have to go out of your way to help people. the max it will cost you is $2 and if yo're not willing to pay that much to help a fellow member out then that is pretty slack.

i don't know if this helps the discussion but when i moved from Qld to victoria and my wife said i could not bring all of my cards with us i boxed up what cards i did not want and took them to the local hospital and donated them all to the childrens ward.I hope it put a smile on some sick kids faces and maybe it got some of them interested in cards and that can't be a bad thing can it

Simple answer... Yes, you are expecting too much. No one's gonna pay $1 a card for base when you can buy lots of 50 for $10 on ebay etc. Trade your base for cards you need, or give them away if you don't want them and just charge for postage.

Well something positive=D> , I was toying with the idea but your reply convinces me to just that, I will take them to the hospital, after all the MATER Hospital did look after me after me recently.
Thanks for the reply.

donating them to a hospital childrens ward is a wonderful idea!

I gave away all my barkley's to some african kids who emigrated to Australia... they liked Barkley and I didn't need them.... that's the sorta thing I like to see done with cards :D

If you're not happy with what they're offering, then why are you going to bin them? Sounds like sour grapes AJ

I did what Tony did and gave them to my friend of mine in the States before I came home, when I purchased a few boxes over there. They'll be going into Xmas stockings for under priveliged kids in Dallas.

Everyone will have a differing oponion. You do what you want to do

I confess the person in trouble with AJ is me ;)
I offered $3 for 3 base cards of ricky with postage costs, It costs $2 to send in a mailer but i wouldnt care if it was sent in an envelope lol.
Somepeople do business differently and i whole heartly respect that but i didnt see the point in paying $5 for 3 base cards i could get for next to nothing from members i frequently deal with on the boards.
pce out

I guess I'd have been happy to pay for postage (or to send you some for postage - like I've just done to Chad, who's offered to send a DVD), but like everyone, I'd probably like to receive cheap cards, but sell them high.

Correction at no time did I say you are in trouble with me I actually said "and I hold nothing against them as everyone wants to get things for as little as possible".

My point to this thread was to find out if maybe I expect to much for the effort I was putting in. But in the future I will not have to worry as I will only keep the most sought after players and the rest can go to the kids at the Hospital.

I think it is a good idea that you are sending the cards to the hospital. As in regards to asking for $1 per base card, I don't put a price on effort. Lots of people on this board make HUGE contributions to others collections for nothing or for just the cost of postage. Personally im not on this board to make profit, I'd rather see other people with cards they want than me have them just sitting away in a 5000 card box.

base cards should be given away for free. effort schmeffort...lots of people go out of their way to send others free stuff on ozcards, its what makes it such a great place. everyone can afford the $1.35 for postage + bubble mailer....shit, i send ppl free stuff regularly, and im unemployed at the mo. And your PC contains some pretty expensive stuff, i wouldnt say your struggling to put 2 bob together...
