2016 NRL Cards

ESP have fallen into a parallel trap. They seem to be stuck in no man's land.
Big markets can accommodate sets with a multitude of parallels and the sweetener is that many are numbered.
So ESP bring in the Mojo parallels numbered to 40 and bundle the team sets together, a great idea, no need to chase around for individual cards.
But these are the third set of the same cards and the others aren't numbered so they hold no real appeal. Team collectors get their teams easily enough but full set collectors are dropping off due to the cost and scope of their endeavours.
Bottom line - in this market, numbered parallels or no parallels.
Murray, I like what you have said.
Bottom line is the fact that they are so bloody greedy, they have gone the same way as dynamic and will close up shop before their contract ends in 2017.
I have been collecting cards for 46 years and watched all the cycles, trust me it won't be long.

How about a numbered signature 9 card parallel set only limited to 50 say per team set as the only parallel set. Make an 18 card common set as well to cover all players. Keep a Dally M insert set to acknowledge the fine achievements of those winning players. Maybe a coaches signature set to spice it up as it's never been done before? though if you are a Parra or Tigers supporter you may need 2 cards per team to cover this per year. Snap !!!

good suggestions Vic.

like the idea of the coaches sig that could be interesting for some collectors. not something i had ever thought of prior

Probably a reason why it is unlikely to happen looking at how many coaches get the chop each year. Some are "lucky" and will be able to hang round till the end of the year others gone straight away.

Got to love these forums. I'd like to add my 2c in; I think ESP and alike who manufacture these cards should listen to the customers, "US". We are the ones that dictate if we like their product or not by choosing to buy or pass on them. We are the ones who go out and spend our dollars and if we decide it's a lemon then chances are, they will struggle to sell the series. From what I've heard a lot of collectors have given the Elite 2015 a miss, why?? Well because the price is too high, the product is boring, the images are the same across the base, silver, gold and mojo parallel cards, the sets are too big and the distribution and marketing was an absolute balls up. How can you sell to the dealers only and not push it through all good newsagencies around the country. Anyone see any posters up in places before the launch date?? Was it easy to purchase packets over the counter, just buy one loose pack instead of a case?? I think ESP played it safe, wanted to guarantee it's sales so it presold them to major dealers and called it a success. Wrong, how many dealers are still sitting on cases feeling like how the hell can we offload these and recoup our investment?? How does one try and justify spending $9 on a packet to find you can buy the base set on Ebay for less than that?? That's when you know it's a flop. Good bye to the master collectors!!
I haven't heard if they will be producing the Elite 2016 but the Traders will go ahead with a lesser amount in production, so that's some good news.
Please ESP make it a good product and don't take us for fools.

Not sure how it works, but ESP sold out of the Elite 2015 series about 2 weeks after release, I am sure that suppliers like IKON and such, still have a mass amount of stock left - and probably will for some time yet. However if ESP rate it on how quickly they sold out, I wouldn't expect much change. Like I said, I dont know how their distribution model works and whether they have actually received full payment for the full release or if they have some sort of buyback/return process if the stock doesn't sell, however I think this is an interesting point to raise, if from thier point of view they sold out quickly, they would consider this release a solid success, despite the negative feedback on forums and such.

ESP have done a sneaky this year totally stuffing up sales for Icon, Firstly they delayed delivery to Icon until their so called ESP dealers all had stock in Sydney & Melbourne. Once Ikon told ESP what they were going to take in the 1st shipment ESP via Riff of JaJas distributed the balance of the stock personally at a cheaper price per case & freight free. This why the likes of Diggaz TC had their cards a week before anyone else & this also gave them the advantage of opening up their cases & knowing what they had for sale come release day..If you ring Ikon I'm sure you will find they would still have a lot of their stock still..ESP have created a boys club for their preferred resellers & only look after them & stuff everyone else.

It's geared to support the affiliated sellers and the group breaks. And they have gone gang busters for 2015 elite.

after collecting footy cards for nearly fifty years I have become very disinterested very quickly in the product ESP has delivered to the market. I can't even say exactly why but I think, as others have mentioned, the uninspired photo shopping of players and the cheap repetition through parallels are mostly to blame. I wouldn't even mind the price if I thought I was getting a quality, collectable product. Even the mojo set doesn'tt interest me as I see them as just another parallel set. After collecting just about every Dragons card since 1966 I haven't purchased a single card from Elite 2015 and unfortunately can't see myself collecting any more unless the cards simply become more interesting.Rehashing the same format each year ain't gonna work. Rant finished!

Paddy, I am with you all the way.
Have watched them come and go.
ESP, have burnt so many dealers and collectors in general along the way I know that a few dealers have given up on them from the latest release.
1 is even considering legal action against them.
They have now made there bed, let them lye in it.
They have ruined the hobby for many and that sort of thing takes time to forgive and they will not have that time as there licence expires early 2017.
Greedy bastards, I hope you laughed on the way to the bank.
