2015 ESP Traders Official Thread (Sell Sheet Page 4)

I agree on the Retirements. They are a great looking card very worthy of being 1:72. 13 Traders had some crackers also, Hindmarsh & Hornby would have held their value well.

I believe that they were meant to be 1:72 in 13 Traders but another low end set that was planned fell over and they dropped the retirements in to fill that void.

I only went after the Retirements in 2013, 1:72 now with 16+ in the set would kill my budget!!

Am quite dirty about retirements. They're a good card and now harder to finish.

Not sure why Traders can't be split in to hobby and retail packs either. Those Galactic cards are tripe.

Man, interest seems to be at rock bottom for Traders this year, going by the number of posts in this thread!

Can't say I blame people, I'm feeling the same way, pretty much. I think maybe a bit too much coming out has just fatigued me for the whole hobby ...

Seen more posts about people selling their collection than i have about traders.

Said to a friend the other day that there might be 208 of each legends sig but no one is interested in busting the products as chances of getting them are so slim and your almost better off waiting for other people to bust and try to buy the inserts your after. (Eg:team collector)

Yeah I agree, I'm at that point aswel now! always been a collector of most subset inserts but now they just keep getting bigger and more if them, so yeah downsizing my collection aswel as wel and truly over these realeases and always late realease and qlders are always weeks behind nsw because of the early release they get

I'm with everyone else. The first series of nrl cards in the year is way too big. Surely it can be halved to at least give people a chance to collect the whole set.

it has to be this size for dealers to want to buy any of it... because otherwise they make no money back and its a waste of their time.

believe it or not, this is actually a good thing for the hobby.

Ok here are my thoughts......

Girds is spot on here, this is about giving the dealers something to resell and is aimed at people needing to open much more product to complete sets. This is the release where ESP makes its biggest profits so it makes sense for them to make this the product where people need to open a lot of stock to get cards to fill gaps.

If you look at the per box breakdown and the potential value:

Per Box (Assuming its still one parallel per pack along with another insert)

  • 36 Parallel Cards ($1 each Resale) $36
  • 12 Special Parallel Cards ($3 Dollars each Resale) $36
  • 12 Faces of the Game ($3 Dollars each Resale) $36
  • 6 Season to Remember ($5 each Resale) $30
  • 3 Pieces of the Puzzle ($8 each Resale) $24
  • 2 Thunder and Lightning ($12 each Resale) $24
  • 1 Galactic Heroes ($15 each Resale) $15
  • 1 Retirement or Club Leaders ($25 each Resale) $25

Total Estimated Resale Value is $226 per box.

You are also looking at 2 hits per pack. With the insert sets being so big it will help retain some value.

Overall it looks a good release with plenty to collect, with the only head scratcher for me being the Dynamic Duo only having 3 cards, this could have been spread across all teams as a good chase card.

Cheers
Matt

Yeah this is 100% correct!

Its the best traders set we have seen yet any way. Some collectors will complain about the insert sets but then this time last year theyd be complaining about not getting enough resale back on their box breaks

You cant have everything, this is very close to what i'd consider the perfect medium for both collectors and dealers.

All you have said may be true, but esp may see in a few years, hindsight, if they do not want to that is, they have flooded the market and driving collectors out of the market with there silly repetition of parallels and constant use of the same image.
As a lot of people have whinged about select in the past myself included.
Esp are only interested in player contracts anyway, they have a 5 year contract with the NRL
Be bold and brave ESP.
I KNOW IT COMES DOWN TO COST.
But after all it is only a computer listed run of photos.
first team in the set is the team that won the premiership,
2nd team goes second, etc
all down to the last.
This would at least give the collectors something to think about and give some memories to the set each year, a bit like early scanlens cards.

Agree re the positioning of the team sets in line with a teams respective finish in the premiership the year previous.

Having a flash-back just this second to the pink borders of the 1988 cards...first manly-warringah...then canberra...

I agree with all your thoughts, Matt. The last two sets of Traders have provided a much better product for collectors in terms of what is in a box. In addition to this the 2014 Elite release was absolutely terrific (would still like a case hit, but very, very good nonetheless)

The problem for me in Traders is scarcity. they are so mass produced that a 4 per box Triple Threat from 2013 Elite is twice as scarce as a 1 in every 24 boxes Four Brothers card from 2014 Traders.

I think it is a matter of perspective. I think if people didn't have the carrot of the legend sig in Traders and it was moved to Elite as a case hit then people wouldn't be so disappointed with Traders. It would be the cheap and cheerful set to start the year, with heaps of inserts etc. Scarcity and value wouldn't be so much of an issue. You wouldn't have high end cards lost to kids who don't have the means to look after them safely. You'd just be collecting because it is fun to collect. That would lower the price, which I feel is far too high for what the set is. I think they need to produce a product in which the box can sell for around the $90-95 mark. Alternately, I think the Elite set is remarkably cheap for what it is.

It is important to look at the high end cards in Traders as a bonus I guess rather than the be all and end all of the set. But is very, very hard not to be disappointed when you can't seem to get one.

I personally have stopped collecting because the answer to the question 'can i complete all the sets that come out' is no. But that is because I am a complete set collector. There are other types of collectors that I'd imagine are very satisfied. People are leaving, but the mass produced aspect of the set is no doubt attracting another legion of fans who will no doubt grow up, get jobs and drive the hobby forward. The sets can't please everyone, and I don't think you can judge a releases success on just the opinion of old farts on the OZCT site.

People say that Dynamic over-produced, but they got me hooked.

I hope I'm not an old fart as you put it, we all have opinions, and this is a site where we are able to share them.
After all we old farts have most of the older cards younger whipper snippers are chasing and have seen all the fads come and go.
Dan, I will keep a grey hair when I get them, may be we can trade for some 36s.

I'm still pretty keen to see 2015 Traders despite the down sides. It's going to be long haul filling all the insert sets and I doubt I'll be buying a case this time (no chance actually), but I've got all you blokes (and ladies) to help out. ;)
