2014 ESP Elite info discussion thread (Flyer P22 - Checklist P41)

Now that some product has hit the Newsagents, it looks like it's 'Box Searching' that could become an issue for the casual buyer.
I've found that most boxes have the remaining packs pushed up at an angle having had the bottom packs harvested. Haven't come across any "just opened" boxes to test the top packs yet. Box searched for sure - and even worse for me since I've had no luck at all with loose packs. :(

I've noticed few posts around here where people were tracking where sigs and world cup parallels were located in their boxes :cautious:

Across my case more boxes had signature card packs on the very top and bottom. Didn't really take notice at first but at least five boxes, so this might be a bit of a trend that has people digging to the bottom.

I no for a fact someone up here has been goin around to every newsagent doin this! and even asking shop workers to open new boxes? This is so wrong? Especially asking them to open new boxes when there's still plenty of packs in the open box

I agree. Kind of selfish and it will turn the casual collector off NRL cards because they won't get any hits.

If the newsagent is happy to open, happy to sell them, I see no problem in it. I have dipped in for my couple of packs; I usually do regardless.

The casual collector has as much chance and right to buy as they like. If they get a hit or not is not a care I have when I buy hoping to get the sig and I defy anyone on here who thinks differently.

And let's say you don't dip and an 8 year old pulls the #1 and tosses it. They'd be murder on the dancefloor then and much wringing of hands that a casual collector CBF about the #1 card.

Am happy for people to pull sigs and if it means people are trawling boxes which is what is happening then so be it.

My issue would be not paying the right price for the product and may encourage them not to stock next time.

Yes I see your point. I to would much rather a collector have a sig than a non collector. My point is if casual buyers aren't getting anything they will feel less inclined to buy the product. I just thought that making the staff go open a fresh box while there was another one open a bit silly.

I see no issue, it's all fair game... I'm sure there's newsagents out there that collect, and the box is always full with no signiture cards...

Some Newsagents will take 2 half full boxes and turn into one.
I have witnessed this several times when buying packs.
So could be the situation were there could be 2 signature cards in a box or 0

Sounds like a certain grub i know that would be doing something like this !!!

I don't think there is an exact science to finding the sigs so for me 'box searching' is not an issue. I have only scored the one sig so far that wasn't from a sealed box or a starter and it was from somewhere in the middle. One of the two main newsagents that I buy my stock from open 3-4 boxes straight away and as one box sells they fill the others up with remaining packets so you never know what you are going to get. The other newsagent only opens one box at a time and will only sell that one box.

Exactly. Many of the newsagents I go to either place packets in their FOS / counter rack OR just top up the one box with other boxes.

And I can bet anyone who has been reading this thread and thinks sigs are bottom packs has been having a dip.

Not quite sure about the above...
I have bought 4 boxes, four starters, two albums with 2 packs each and 12 loose packs from the one open box (were stacked edge up as has been mentioned, so could have been from a couple of boxes) and I have hit three sigs (2 YG and 1 LS) and each of those has been in the last pack from the right of the box. Given my stats on hits, if my newso has what appears to be a fresh box, I'll be hitting the right side packs for sure

No. I just know someone who was getting elite at Powerplay prices because the newsagent was clueless. I believe there isn't much margin on them as it is.

That said if you're in business and don't know your sale points then the customer can't be blamed.

I had a newso scan 4 starters as loose packs I didn't realise until I got home... I feel bad but this can happen with any product at a shop fruit, milk, in my case it was probably the wrong scan on the barcode
