We are lucky we have a product to collect, NRL cards could easily gone the way of cricket cards after Select's license wasn't renewed. We should be happy overall as there are alot of far worse things to be concerned about in the world.

It's just the same as how they repeatedly said the Young Guns were numbered for the Traders set, then when they come out, oh no, whoopseedaisy, they're not.

As edabomb said, just make 0 numbered cards for ESP and give the collectors a chance of a number one big hit!

I think if you bought more than one box your opinions would change significantly.

Anyways like you said better we have a set than nothing at all! But at the moment feel abit cheated with all the lies.

This is completely and utterly unacceptable...end of story. The way in which ESP go about their business stinks, they are deceitful and their market tactics are questionable at best (inside information). A lack of information before release seems to be a smoke and mirrors technique to keep collectors ignorant of the factors that may damage their sales, and that is having a severe financial (and emotional) impact on customers who buy under false pretences. Damn their monopoly.

The cards are great, but if you use this as your counter-argument you are missing the point entirely.

True forgot about those future stars haha on top of this idea then are they just receiving signature sets of master sets of everything, because if thats the case did they make extra Fast and furious cards? or are they lower in numbers too would be nice to know exact info but yeah i guess thats collecting always gotta be some drama its the fun of it and keeps everyone guessing and on there toes

Esp are not a trading card company, there a sports star management and marketing company.
Not sure if they really care about nrl card collectors but more to get a foot in the door for signing nrl players to be managed by esp.

Elite cards are still quite nice.. Mainly the league sensations!! Still abit of player/collector homework to be done I think.

Was definitley dreaming of a jersey number barba/hayne/gi in my collection

On their flyer it states there are 130 Sensations enclosed in boxes, 105 Future Stars etc. The simple fact is that there is not. There is 129 & 104. How is this not illegal false advertising? That is 36 trash boxes that could have had a sig, which is a pretty big deal for those on this forum that have lucked out on the busting stakes.

And #001s. Let me be conservative. Lets say they averaged out at a worth of $450 each (lowballing), they have taken $7200 out of our market. Future Stars at $200?ea = $3200. That is $10k++ stolen from the consumers. But, on the plus side...if you have a #002!!

Right that was the conservative whinge - now the irrational, emotionally charged whinge

Imagine there hasn't been a jackpot in Lotto for several weeks. Someone asks the organisation what is happening. They respond "On careful consideration we decided to quietly remove the jackpot, keep it for ourselves and hand out 2nd division and below only, but it is okay because that still means you can win some nice prizes.' Sensationalising I know, but they have stolen our jackpot.

It is so

frustrating because, as has been said ad nauseum, this release could have been brilliant. It has two very simple mistakes that have ruined it and these were signposted by collectors (and acknowledged) last year. I can understand them making mistakes through inexperience (variation in pens for sigs), but I cannot accept this other stuff without frank disclosure

Oh and the argument that Select did the same - at least they were open about it. They didn't wait until we had found out ourselves.

Let's hope they don't decide to release ultra rare 1/1s next year!

The odds on a League Sensation are actually 1:72.558, rounded up to 1:73, unless they've taken 1152 packs off the market to keep the odds the same.

For a company that waffles on about maintaining the integrity of collecting, this is not what I expected from them.

I knew about the number 001's a few days ago, this broken promise along with their questionable practices means this is my last NRL set. I will not buy another product released by ESP. I will continue to try and complete my current sets but no more NRL.

Whether it's Select or ESP if a product is advertised with serial numbered cards, there is an implicit selling point that all of the available numbers are available.

There is always ACCC and Office of Fair Trading if anyone feels strongly enough. NRL may also be interested in the business practices of one of its licensees.

The issue with the #001s is definitely disappointing but given that we have never had the #001s, it isn't a deal breaker for me.

NZNRL and others raise perfectly valid points whilst other I feel are being overly self righteous drama queens.

Objectively, I still see this release as a success and the disappointments have not put me off ESP or collecting in general. I'm happy to have something to collect and will keep buying their product as long as they keep making it.

They owe us nothing as we each decide whether or not to purchase their product. Stoked with this set and confident they will continue to improve with each release as they have - in my opinion - thus far.

Exactly what i believe aswell, it sucks for the people buying case after case looking for a #001 on esp's word they would release but for us guys that only buy a couple of boxes not to disappointed. Theres always going to be supporters and always haters its just how it is, impossible to please every single person however i do agree that if you say something then you should stick to it. So thats all it comes down to really if ESP are going to continue to to number cards and use these holograms than we know they will be keeping the #001 at least its all finally out in the open and we can move on chasing cards.... IMO #002 value just went up so those who have them congrats
