2012/13 Australian Cricket (*SPOILERS*)

Mate, I've been a Liverpool fan for 15 years.....even my quilt cover is the LFC crest! Any Liverpool fan will tell you that the major criticism of Rafa was the squad rotation, regardless of how successful it was. Not sure what you are trying to start here?

Not trying to start anything at all. Not sure why anyone would care about squad rotation if its getting results. I for one never cared when rafa did it.

Neither did I. The Istanbul win came on the morning of my 30th Birthday :-) However given that "rotation" is the buzz word in cricket this Summer (and I have said repeatedly that I don't mind it), I was merely comparing the criticism of that to what Rafa did at the Reds and trying to make a joke of it.

I wrote here during the 2010-11 series against England that while the selection panel at the time presided over the national team, I would never criticize the performance of any player who represents Australia.

Well, here we are again. The bowling line-up in this Test match is perhaps the most bewildering, irresponsible selection I have seen since I began following this team in 1990-91. It is not the team who is letting us down, it is the half-smart national selectors. We are actually being laughed at on Cricinfo.

Agreed, I mean we have four opening batsmen in our top 4..... Why is Watson playing as a batsman with an average of 36 in test cricket? its not his batting that got him in the team....

I actually turned the TV off, which is a rarity. I am not going to watch these poor bastards try their hearts out only for it to count for nothing.

Should've stuck with Lyon, you need specialist spinners. England had lost the first test against India and still stuck with the two specialist spinners... they ended up winning the series.

If Watson is in the team he should be opening the batting...no use bringing him in and chucking him down the order where he doesn't want to bad.

But i agree that everything is largely the selectors fault. Cowan should have been dropped by now, and Watson should be opening with Warner. Hughes at 3, Clarke at 4. Bring in Khawaja down the order and blood him for England. Henriques has done well and should stay where he is. Obviously the bowling choices are more bewildering though...i think if you don't have any good spinners then don't play any. Or if you decide to play them then stick by your choices more than one game. Pattinson has done well so far...other bowlers need to follow suit. Too bad Siddle only has one good game per series yet is always picked for his effort...

I think so too....but England have a much better spinner/spinners than Australia. I know Lyon does alright every now and then but frankly the quality of spinners in Australia is utter crap.

There's only one thing to do, call Warnie out of retirement ;)

But it can't be good for their confidence if they keep getting dropped after one bad game. Dhoni specifically went for Lyon as he saw him as the biggest threat in the bowling line up. If he had gone out for 10 Lyon would most likely be playing in this test.

There's only one way to make quality spinners.... give them game time.

Lyon has had a fair chance at bowling, he couldn't bowl out South Africa on a fifth day wicket with a day and a half, he is just not attacking enough, i don't know where our next spinner is coming from though?

what happened to ll these kids that were going to come through on the back of Warne bringing back the art of Leg Spin?

It is true about Lyon not being attacking enough, i just don't think he is cut out to be at test level for a long time. He has previously failed to take wickets when it was needed on numerous occasions. The problem is we don't really have anyone better to replace him. Remember when we went through all those spinners not long ago...McGain had to have been the worst

this is beginning to look the dark days of the eighties where one player stood up and carried that team,i'm talking about Allan Border, with out Michael Clarke things would be a lot worse,I dont think the bowling attack is the problem its the batting, losing hussey has hurt bad,and batting Wade at 6,do the selectors think he is better than Gilchrist
