2011/12 Australian Summer Of Cricket (*SPOILERS*)

No...MS Dhoni deserved it. On day 2, by the end of 2nd session they had only bowled about 40-45 overs when they needed to have 60 at least on the board.

It's about time they started suspending captains for slow over rates. I am actually interested in seeing a 'shot clock' for overs introduced. They used to bowl 100 in SIX hours. Now they barely get 90 in 6 hours plus the 30 mins extra. That's why they shifted the 11am start to 10.30am...so TV and radio could still broadcast before it cut in to their night schedules.

And anyway...India lose nothing with his suspension. Rubbish keeper, poor tactician, doesn't appear to be actually doing any captaining in the field and hasn't really contributed with the bat at all in this series. But I'm sure someone will tell me he is a nice bloke.

Captains are given warnings about slow over rates by match referees, if they have to be warned a certain amount of times througout a series, then they are suspended. Some captains have atrocious records regarding slow over rates. We had 4 quicks operating and managed to stay within our time.

MS Dhoni was previously warned in West Indies. This was his 2nd time...hence the suspension.

Australia's fiendish fielding, and the fact Harris and Hilfy esp just turn, walk back to their mark and steam in again, helped their over rates also.

The last few years, Australia was not without fault in this dept with really slow overs. What gets me is, the quicker you churn through your overs, the more chances you get to bowl at batsmen AND you squeeze the life from them as they are constantly being peppered. With the very good bowling - line and length and swing - they have produced this summer, plus the quicker overs, they bowling attack have hammered the batting and hammered them in to submission. No time to think and that's what has been getting them out.

Bring on 2013 I say. 2 fierce bowling attacks at each others throats! YEAH!!!

I dont have an issue with a captain getting his butt kicked but i think suspension for a 5 day test is a little over the top. I mean does Doni really care at this stage of the tour? Just fine him $50,000 and that over rate will take care of itself.

I tend to agree with you Owen. I mean he knows the rules are there and he has been warned before - but missing a Test does seem a but much.

Perhaps threaten to ban him from the next IPL instead - that will soon result in a return to bowling 100 overs in a day! The ODIs are all the Indians care about these days anyway.

And also by suspending Dhoni it helps the Indian selectors avoid having to make a harsh call on more of it's ageing stars in Adelaide because it requires a change. Instead of Dhoni playing and Laxman and Dravid making way for some young talent the old timers will get another match when it would be the perfect time to see someone else in the Test team given an opportunity.

These guys make, and are very happy to take, big $$$. They all have HUGE support crews who should be kicking them in the ar$e.

Sponsors and TV money feeds these players.

If they cannot bowl 90-100 overs in 3 x 2 hour sessions with the occasional add on for a clutch of wickets (rain delays don't come in to it, they'd automatically be given their over requirements), then something is wrong.

It's funny, everyone decries slow overs AND the 'toothless' ICC, and the ICC go about rectifying the situation, and everyone complains. He was warned once, he did it again...he misses the test. Simple.

hussey's gotta be unlucky not to be captain, bailey never having played an international in any form and all that. could be another short international career, i wouldnt even name him in the 11 best t20 players in the country let alone captain

The success of Ricky Ponting, Michael Clarke and Mike Hussey this season is a smack in the gob to the gossip columnist cricket writers at News Limited who are not fussed whose career they target. To think that this is the same mob that started the "Save Our Steve" (Waugh) campaign in 2002-03, who at the time was just as old if not older than Punter and Huss.

The reason this really gets to me is that I am a 35 year-old male and I know how I would feel if people - particularly those whose sole claim to expertise in the field is "oh, but I've watched it for years" - attempted to hound me out of my position at work.

I disagree. The way the Indians were getting smacked for 4's and sixes for the majority of those 2 and a half days: if the match umpire told ME to get a wriggle on fielding another one of Warner's crowd souvenirs, I'd tell HIM to go pick the ball up from the 2nd tier... You've gotta be buggered after being reduced to 11 Golden Retrievers for close to 2 days! "C'mon boy! Go fetch the ball!" And then some fella up in an air-conditioned office thinks I should run faster??? Sure, if the Indians bowled better they wouldn't be retrieving so many balls from the stands, but are they going to suspend the Bangladeshi/Kenyan captain when Warner takes to THEIR bowling? The ammount of sixes THEY'LL be fetching, their captain might be suspended for a YEAR!

its a pretty good feeling when you support someone through a tough time when others were calling for their heads. well done ricky and clarke. but more so for ricky, tassie cricketers rock!!!
