2006 NRL INVINCIBLE LEGEND DIE CARDS
Dear Collectors,
It has been brought to our attention recently that a full set (15 cards) of 2006 NRL Invincible Legend Die cut ( all bears #13/175) has circulated in the market, and in the meantime, a number of other collectors, also hold the 013 die cut legend card from the same set. Select Australia is obligated to inform collectors that :
1. Select has been producing collector cards for the Australian market for over 20 years, and prides itself on the integrity of its products.
2. Select Australia has only ever released 1 card each of any individually numbered limited edition subset within all the trading card production overseen by Select Australia.
3. Select, as part of its contractual arrangements at the time with the NRL, gave each participating player a complete fully framed set of unnumbered cards for their personal use - hopefully to be hanging in their memorabilia room. Also a number of unnumbered sets were given to the NRL for their archive collections.
4. Since around 2011 Select began printing the word "PLAYER" on the reverse of any player framed sets, as we did find players who were breaking the framed sets up. We haven't heard any response over the past few years of any problems.
5. Based on the limited information, Select Australia can only provide a rough analysis and relevant information.
As we know, the odds of finding on Legend Die Cut card is 1:2 boxes. In the most perfect situation, getting a mixed number full set of 15 Legend Die Cut cards requires minimum 30 boxes of cards. based on such an extreme optimistic event, the chance of receiving all 15 Die Cut cards with the same number is 1-175 power 14 - almost impossible. Of course, by opening the whole production run ( 2 boxes x 15 x 175), same number die cuts will be guaranteed but this won't happen practically as most of those boxes were sold across Australia and there are still some factory cases in retailers hands.
If this number 13 set were built upon buying individual cards from the market, it requires the co-existences of 3 conditions:
All #13 of those Legend Cards were out of packs already
All those owners of the #13 legend cards are willing to sell this particular card AND
the #13 set collector would have to be the exclusive buyer - it is extremely unlikely.
Based on the basic analysis above, Select Australia naturally questions the ligitimacy of the #13 same number legend die cut set. One of the many possibilities is that somebody gets the opportunity to access one set of unnumbered Legend Die Cut cards and numbered the set or part of the set unlawfully.
Regardless how this #13 same number Legend Die Cut card set circulated in the collectors market, Select Australia strongly condemns any activity that is unlawful and damaging the integrity of the trading card business. Select Australia regards it as paramount and will closely monitor the market. Select Australia also urges all collectors to share your responsibility of protecting the integrity of our industry.
6. In addition to the above, Select holds a small quantity of unnumbered sets to be used as replacement cards should a numbered card be damaged in the packing process. A blank card is then sent away to a specialised printer who will renumber the blank card with the number of the damaged card and the damaged card is then destroyed. This process takes 2-6 weeks depending on the amount of cards that are required to be numbered at the time of receipt of the damaged card.
