Ouch! wasn't me mate!! I understand the problem of not knowing the bidding identities as it is hard to pick the trouble makers! maybe someone wanted it as much as your little girl! LOL

Nice Moody pickup BTW

I understand the problem of not knowing the bidding identities as it is hard to pick the trouble makers!

You would have to have a pretty big set of balls to put in a troublemaking bid of $700 though! The angel on one shoulder would assume that someone wanted that set just as bad, but the devil on the other always wonders if they get a friend to put in the lowest bid they would accept for it, knowing they can mutually cancel the bid if they arent happy with the "real" price...

I certainly wasn't suggesting there was anything dodgy about the bid - i just wished the guy's internet dropped out as he was placing it so I could have got the set for half price!!

No doubt it was going to attract a lot of interest as the item was well listed, good photos, reputable seller etc etc. It just hurts that there was such a big gap between the 2nd and third seller!

Has that happened to you guys too - that one other bidder drove the price up so far, and without him you would have picked up a bargain? I remember bidding on a Hawthorn match worn jumper from the late 80s - i bid something silly like $600 and the item sold for $610 - but without the leading bidder I would have got it for $180!!

I'm starting to sound like a seasoned angler talking about the one that got away aren't i!!

I know you werent suggesting that Brad, but the hidden bidder thing has a tendency to cast a slight shadow of doubt, no matter how slight.

With regards to the internet dropping out, I have had that before, and it gutted me at the time! I had it with an eh wagon a few years ago and concert tickets and when I had gotten back on and checked the winning bid it was always a lot lower than I was going to put in... Go the auction snipers, even on live auctions as a back-up for dropouts:)
