Things that piss me off

I hear you on the clutter. And I've taken a lot down to Vinnies but the stuff is still everywhere. I've also still got 730 physical cards on epack( which represents the opening of 730 packs give or take) and I'm starting to get my head around leaving them there rather than paying $0.25 USD per card to ship them. My last comc order I included 12 cards from epack but those 12 cards cost me $3.0 USD in shipping when the whole package with 150 cards only cost $7.0 USD shipping. I spent so many hours on there trading and putting together insert sets but it's crazy from a financial standpoint.

I'm at the point where I'd rather leave the cards on epack as opposed to selling them on comc for $0.27 cents which effectively is $0.02 cents as comc have a $0.25 cent base seller 'fee'. I would get $4 for selling 200 cards from epack on comc - and then they would take a % of that $4, lol. But it would cost me $50USD postage to ship the 200 cards home. It's a rort. It really is.

People in the hobby are mostly very generous. The greed is at the top end - manufacturers, distributors, breakers, etc.

Another vent. I might have to post a few recent pick ups lest I a be labelled a 100% whinging so and so.

Better going through it in 2015 than 2020 onwards.

I am just going to put that period behind me and not delve into the 100k+ i have blown on cards.

At least now i've only been in 2 breaks since June. None since early August. Only bought a few retail baseball boxes in that time but haven't had the inkling since.

Finally my afterpay is cleared. Both credit cards are paid off and it feels good.

Good stuff. I didn't realise you went that hard. Well done on the breaks. I'm now cured. I'm certain. I spent $80 on 4 breaks on top of the $420 I spent on that vile hobby box and today I got 5 cards in the mail from Cherry which all up would be worth $1.25 - as usual. The two toploaders are worth more to me. So that's $80 in and $1.25 back. Realistically it's zero back as you can't sell cards that are worth 25 cents on ebay.

Unfortunately I will have to make another 3 Afterpay payments of $120~ over the next 5 weeks. That hurts. Probably my worst ever ROI ( 3%) $500 in and $15 back.

If I can get rid of Cherry and Afterpay I'm happy too. I'll always be partial to an Ebay fomo purchase on the credit card but at least it will be for a graded card I want or a few cheaper cards to complete a set.

No more wax. No more breaks.

P.S. What are you going to do with the RV stuff?

Also, I know you've spent a ton but the BWJ 1/1 is a cracking card and should get you back a decent amount.

Realistically I should send the lot to consignment and just take what I can get. That's too much trouble for me though. If I knew how to send to COMC, I'd like to send it all there and try selling.

No idea what I'll do but I've stopped buying now

At least you're not like the blokes pumping $1000 a break into high end basketball breaks coming out with nothing in the break.

I spent so many $10-$30 breaks where I came out with nothing and was sick with regret. I can't imagine the big ballers losing $1000+ and not even getting a card
 
Eye-opening last few pages to read. I've been buying less and less for a couple of years now, getting my collection further and further down in number.

Started at around 350, currently at around 90 cards total with about 50 of them for sale in various places. Actually just bought a card I'd had my eye on for years but was always too expensive. Been buying throughout those couple of years too, just much less in number and higher in quality (to me haha)

I find the more narrow I can get my PC, the less options to buy cards to add to it. Unfortunately when they do pop up they're not cheap, but it's much better than loading up on hundreds of cheap cards building bigger sets that will be almost impossible to offload if I need to.
 
I had gotten several 1970s and 1980s Rugby League cards graded by CGA. For cards back then they have a specific naming criteria. I noticed several errors on the labeling. I emailed them and sent them back for re-labeling. They said no problem, and re-labelled them for free and sent them back. It's attention to detail.

There is no way I would send a card in with a bottom left corner like that. $22USD flushed down the toilet. When you look at the raw version you can not adequately evaluate the card. It certainly doesn't look as obviously flawed as this card is.

You can see the bottom left corner has some card stock hanging out. You could not see that on the raw version

It was a complete waste of $22USD and due to the amount of time it took to get back to me I would get a fair bit less than I would have, had I just sold it raw when I pulled it on epack. ($65). Now the PSA9 version is listed for $60~ on comc and it's not selling meaning the card's current market value is probably $50( same as the raw version). Take out the $22 for grading and I'm effectively getting $28.

I can only blame myself. I couldn't properly evaluate the condition of the card with the photo available and should never have used the service. If it was for strictly pc purposes then the grades don't matter so much but I tried to add value to the card and it was always going to fail.

Rough.

Happy to help you out with the comc bit if you have questions. It's not that hard once you get the hang of it. You just have to be aware of a few pitfalls. I've made plenty of mistakes with them so I could help you avoid most of those. There are some sneaky 'fees' that if not factored in can bite you.

In short comc is a good place to get rid of a pile of cards that are $5 and up. Less than that and they need to be highly liquid and sell fast. If they don't sell and keep dropping in price eventually they may be worth less than the fees that you paid to list the card. You need a buffer. At least with ebay you don't pay until you sell. And if you don't sell you don't pay.
