I know it's probably an "ebay links" thread, but I feel it's more of an argumentative post...

Just spotted this one...

03-04 Exquisite Patch Auto Lebron James BGS 9.5

Currently at $47K AU!

My questions are...

1.) Is this really worth it?

I mean, unless Bron can succeed in his career like the Great MJ, he'll amount to nothing but a flahy player who can fill a stat sheet.

And...

2.) If he does amount to greatness and achieve what MJ has done (or even close to it), what do you think this card would sell for once he's done that (given it'll probably be 10 years away).

I'll answer these questions, and see what you guys think.

1.) - No, it's not worth it, Lebron won't acheive what MJ did, but he will be a great player when his career is all said and done.

2.) - Let's say he wins 2 championships, this card would probably sell for $60K AU. I doubt seriously if this card will increase in it's value after these 10 years.

And besides, what's not to say in 2-3 (perhaps 5) years, there will be another Rookie to take the League by storm, and will out-shine Lebron's performance thus far.

I agree with u in that i don't think that lebron will ever be the mj equal but i don't think anyone ever will be , mj has great stats but not necessarily the best stats ever but if you ask anyone who's the best or most popular player of all time i'm sure mj would win that poll by a landslide but back to the subject thats a awesome card and if he does very well for the rest of his career maybe that card might be worth a ----load in 10 then again maybe not so 2 answer your question i don't have a clue

I agree, not worth it, he will NEVER do what MJ did, unless he gets his own Scottie Pippen, he will never win 6 Rings.

And even if he did emulate Jordan, would it be worth it? my answer, no...but this is coming from a person who doesnt even like spending $35 on a single card, much less $35K LOL

definately not worth it, this is why you should have limits and boundaries in collecting such as cards because if you don't have limits and boundaries it passes from being fun to being serious and from being a hobby to becoming an obsession. that is so much money and honestly i find people who spend that much wasting their money and their lives.

I just realised, it's probably cheaper to buy a case or 3 of this stuff and try to pull the Bron! You might even get a Wade or Melo while you're at it too!! Then get em graded, and viola!!! CA-CHING!!!

hmmmm that's good thinking dude, your probably right. you could end up getting a bron and lots of other high-end cards.

personally i'd rather have a Wade than a Melo or Bron, fortunately for me PRICE does not quite beat the value of having a player you like a lot more than one who sells higher. Wouldn't mind a Bosh either.

exactly, dont those boxes go for $20K plus now?

mighty big risk, when you can pick this baby up.

Assuming 1 Patch Rookie Auto/Box:

There are 7470 possible pulls (31 rookies /225 and 5 /99)
Chances of pulling a Bron/Wade/Melo/Bosh(Darko isnt really a great pull) = 5.3%

P (Pulling one from 3 cases) = 47.7%

But it might only be 1 clr or not BGS9.5 etc etc
Rather risky

[-X Depends who opened the case! :p

Must just be the Spurs' Fans that are twisted, lol.

I know exactly where a Case of 03-04 Exquisite is!

And besides, you'd get better overall pulls that a bloody Bron.
Now ask yourself this, what if you pulled Wade and Bron?????

I know I'd much rather spend say $20K on a Case, than spending $45K on 1 card. Then there's the fun in busting the sucka.....

In a few years Luke Ridnour's will be $$$++++++++++ heaps up.

Does Kirk Hinrich have some of these cards too? Never seen exquisites of him. JOSH HOWARD! BORIS DIAW! WOO!

Ridnour wont hit $1k, there are 225 Exquisite Rookies of him, for the Bron/Wade/Melo/Darko/Bosh, there are only 99 of them =/

No Hinrich Exquisite

There are some Topps exclusive players without Exquisites
notably Okafor (and also Morrison is a Topps Exclusive this year too)

Anytime a card is worth as much as a decent deposit on a house then I would have to say NO IT'S NOT WORTH IT !

Nope..for A and B.

not worth it..LJ is great player, but he will not match MJ even he wins more rings than MJ did..
even LJ wins more than 10 rings... i don't think he will ever achieve what MJ did.. it's as simple as that. Bill Russell won 11 and if u ask who bill russell is in random basketball court, some of them will even said, NO.

David Stern turned the NBA around..when he became comissioner in 80s, and before that Basketball is just known as Celtics-Lakers.. it wasn't global.
With David Stern's comission, While fading of Magic-Bird goldern days..
MJ attracted basketball to be globallized...

Why MJ is greatest.. i just felt that he rose in right era, the craziness of basketball has begun at MJ's time..
i never thought MJ is greatest player in NBA.. he was just most famous because of the right time..
MJ didn't win what Bill Russell did.. MJ couldn't play like what MAgic Johnson did.. (who played 5 positions in his rookie year to win NBA champs)..
MJ didn't achieve what Kareem Did... they both played until 40 yrs of age..

and next 10 years.. we will not be interested in LJ..at least, half of the current collectors won't be. (think about 12 cycles productions of Exquisite, the excitement will definitely be less than nowadays..)

MJ was one of a kind, he's got Pip and Horace who can combine 30 points 15 boards, 10 assists, 4 steals and 3 blocks minimum.... and can increase all the stats whenever MJ is not doing well.

I think collecting cards is only great for hobby.. unless we sell boxes or open the shop.. over the time, every card's value is decreased... so, for me, i will get as many cards for the players i collect.. value doesn't really matter... but i will never buy the cards that are over 100$. for me, 5 cent cards with nice photo and memorable little writing on the back is even fun to collect..

just my 1.5 cents..

Lippo,

very good point..

Morrison is kinda hot nowadays... i think this year.. topps will make some great cards.... i read topps acquire morrison in september beckett.

And he's even now scoring quite well in preseason lol

this doesn't really change the point of the arguement much, but i think you'll find that there are 30 rookies /225 and 6 /99!! Udonis Haslem, the number 6 pick from the draft, is also #/99. he is card number 43 i believe, where as the other 5 rookies #/99 are at the end of the set numbered 74-78. ;) ;)
