Best and Worst sets ever made

I dont really want to go into specifics but i did mean "dodgy" alot more loosely than you took it.
Anyways all of this is :offtopic:
So.....Howabout those sets

Best:
* Scanlens sets. no chase cards generally so everyone had a chance to get a full set. I like the rounded corners as cards stayed in better shape but HATED the stupid captions mentioned previously
* From Select 2003, 2007 invincible, centenary, 2009 classic, 2011 Strike for varying reasons

Worst:
* most Champions sets
* Tele sets
* pink border in 88 set

and I must disagree with many on the 1997 Fatty set. The cards were probably the sturdiest in terms of thickness of any set. Vivid colours etc I didn't mind

if i could make a set taking parts from differant sets this is what i would have.......

1986 Scanlens...Base Set
or
2003 XL....Base Set
2006 Accolades...Parralel Face Cards
2000 Select...Stars of Origin (12)
2000 Select...Anzac Heroes (8) (covering all 4 nation countries )
2011 Strike....Awards #/400
2007 Invincibles...Top Prospects #/300
2006 Invincibles...Predictors #/300
2003 XL...Jersey Swatch (4) #/200
2003 XL...Jersey Swatch Signatures (4) #/100
2009 Classic...Captains Sig (4) #/50
2003 XL...Dual Legends (2 players from 1 club) #/25
2001 Impact...Treasure #/5

Oh, you people anti the captions just have no sense of fun! They're hilariously lame!!!

I say bring them back (they'd be better than a boring logo on the back of the parrallel sets ... mind you, not that Select uses any photos entertaining enough to write a caption to).

Dislike. 2007 Champions. Start of GAMMON childrens sets rather than collectors..

Most like 2004 Authentic.. The Captain Signatures are awesome from that year.. There was just AWESOME players that year..
2009 Classic.. Just an overall NICE looking set.. And.. Topped off with another captain set!!

looks like select sold the rest of it off to steve wang at card zone too bad he wants a arm and a leg for a box

Cardzone has nothing to do with distributing Select's product. JHL Trading Cards is the Australian distributor for Select's product. JHL also supplies Cardzone, its just that Steve owns both companies. I am not sure exactly how the business model would work but in order to buy the product at Wholesale prices sellers must have some sort of a shopfront (whether physical or virtual such as an eBay store), so I would imagine that Cardzone would buy the product off JHL even as a paperwork exercise unless its JHL trading as Cardzone...............gives me a headache.

Its just a pity that he dominates the market as he does because as his stock of product reduces (as the wholesaler) he increases the wholesale price to make more money off us schmucks. Lets be honest, the only way we are going to have an impact on the market is that if everyone collector boycotts the product, unfortunately that won't affect Select directly, they would have already sold the product to JHL for him to distribute to all the shops and little sellers out there, only people we would be hurting is the likes of 1967Sharks, redtorana and goldcoastcards, all of who are authorised resellers off the product.

Excellent post Dave =D>, That pretty much expresses my feeling about the whole situation.
I dont think i will have the JHL hook up for long as i am pretty much done with Select for now and probably wont cover the minimum purchases for the year

^^Well said Dave. Its outrageous that Wang controls the market they way he does all at the bequest of Select.

Instead of there being more players allowed in and letting the market dictate price everyone has to take the price dictated by Wang. Then the only way you can get a cheap box these days is if it comes from a seller that has searched a case who is just looking to offload.

I bet if one of us rocked up with an offer to become a distributor in QLD or NSW Select would politely tell us to f*ck off no matter how much $$$ you came knocking with.

Ed from Ed's cards who used to have a shop front in Parramatta tried some time ago to no avail

If they bring out a Gallen Captain signature this year you two will buy 8 cases each.

I haven't been round his place for ages and haven't seen any listings. Last time I saw him the Mrs had left so I can only assume there has been chaos since

I have not seen him list much in a while. He has been pretty quite.
