Does anyone want to see 90's style inserts return?

Hi all,

I've been checking out a fair few box breaks lately because at the end of the day, we all really like to bust. It's just that I can't find anything close to worth it out of the newer Panini stuff that I'd like to collect or bust.

Now this is'nt your standard Panini bash (although I don't own 1 Panini card).

I want to know if there's enough people that really do want to see the 90's style rare insert again?

Or is it all about the autos?

It seems like in the early 00's everything went to game used (1:288 packs for some and they are worth nothing).

But now because there is so many sweet patches around those earlier game used are worth squat.

I'd like to see a series come out with maybe 1 or 2 auto sets (1 rookie and 1 of the best stars they could get)

and maybe an insert set or something with 1:360 or 1:720 or 1 per case or whatever. A nice insert series with a list of the TOP players in the League.

Think how good a Playmakers Theatre, or noyz boyz type of insert would be with a list of guys like, Lebron James, D. Wade, D.Howard, B. Griffin, D.Rose, Amare, Carmello, Durant, Westbrook, C. Paul, Aldridge, T. Evans, J. Wall and the guys still getting it done like Nash, Dirk, Kobe, Ray Ray, KG, Pierce, T.D.

It could be a 20 card set of the top players with some hyped up rookies.

Could be a 1 per case thing and that way you won't pull some hard to get card of Daniel Orton or some other chump. (Daniel Orton should never be a case hit, that's just wrong)

I'm not saying copy off those inserts, surely it can't be that hard to produce a sweet looking rare insert (at the end of the day, if it looks good and is rare, then it will catch on).

If they can somehow get Michael Jordan into their cards then Panini are laughing.

But if they can't then surely the few I listed above would get it going.

Is it just because the hobby has changed to player collectors mainly now? Please change back, there is too many cards of chumps out there. Some autos go for .99c, that's crazy, it's not worth the ink.

And parallels, geez there is too many crap ones.

Sorry this was'nt supposed to be so long.

Would love to hear some thoughts on this.

Benny

Yes, yes, OMG yes!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've been going on about this for before even Panini came onto the scene in the NBA card world, yet the card companies just don't listen - they just like putting out the same ol autos and game used over and over and over and over again!

The closest we have got to a decent looking insert lately has been the 08-09 PMG's that were released and you can see how popular they have been.

Crap players, Average Players, Non stars should not be on Auto or Memorbilia cards for a start. Its the biggest letdown in the world to pull an auto or GU from a rare set only to find some chump on the card. Leave them on base cards where they belong.

Yes Yes Yes

I was so bored of the same stuff that when I bought my last couple of boxes I ordered these boxes just because they are packed with great inserts:

1997/98 Topps Series 1
1993/94 Skybox Premium Series 2

Haven't busted them yet....waiting for a slow day but it will be fun when I do!

Yes! I don't like how the super rare card be it insert or patch or auto or whatever looks on slightly different to the version numbered to 299 or 500 or whatever. I want my rare 1/1 to look nothing like what anyone else had got. And that's why it's special, not just because it says 1/1 on the back. Not just 1/1s any thing under 50 or so should be like this. I want less variations and more imagination!!!!

Yes Yes Yes...I miss the time of having to bust a pack and how happy it makes you feel of pulling an insert.

Pull the Jordan Dyanmic Dunks or the Shaq/Penny Thunder and Lightning! :worthy:

I'm over the Parallel thing completely.
With the Score Football, you have, common, glossy, end zone, end zone red, end zone gold, artist proof and scorecard. All are the same card ,some you need to remove from the sleeve to be able to tell them apart.
Bring the old style inserts back.

I think it's definately that simple. They pick a design, then they milk it for all it's worth by making a base Insert, jersey, patch, auto, jersey auto, patch auto, and 1/1. Not to mention I find most sets have just too many cards in it. Like back then some sets might have around 10 cards, these days it's like 20 minimum, in elite black box, I found an insert set I reeally like, crusade #/25, turns out there's about 100 cards in the set!!!! That's bs!

I agree. Could it be as simple as card designers just have no imagination these days?!

Frankly I think they just can't be bothered! They simply don't want to spend the time coming up with a nice design and would prefer to just come up with some standard looking desigh and then chuck a "gu" piece on it or a sticker auto and get things moving ASAP.

maybe this lockout will be good for panini - they won't have new cards to put out and can go back to the drawing board and stop being unimaginative.

Please mailday these, I have been flirting with some of these type boxes for a while.

Cheap, fun and full of quality players + a chance of a Jordan insert.

I'd like to see them ditch the standard game used on most stuff, Oh crap I don't know, it's all getting too much.

Is anyone confident of Upper Deck coming back with NBA stuff?

On one hand I want to see it and on the other I don't so that exquisite stays as the premium for auto sets.

Is it just because the hobby has changed to player collectors mainly now?

As someone on the edge of returning to the hobby, this was the main thing I noticed. Set collectors seem to be few and far between. It doesn't help the set collector's cause when some cards in a set have different print runs to others (i.e. #/50, #/5, #/1). I recall looking at Hairyangryfella's low-numbered Quad Tags set and thought "wow, this bloke would have fended off every player super-collector to finish this".

I also would like to see a clear ratio. Something that helps you towards knowing exactly what is a rare card.

I'm still waiting for a great insert set from Panini.

You see alot of breaks where they pull the nice set (lets say that preferred silhouette) and it's of an average guy.
