Hi all; i have recently been selling off my dvd collection as i barely have time to watch movies. The process of selling dvds on ebay has been fine, however, recently one clown has claimed he has not received a dvd he has purchased. This is about a week after i sent the dvd. Naturally, i asked him to confirm the address i sent the dvd to plus also check in with his local Post Office to see if they have held it for some unknown reason. Then i log into paypal today and there is a claim over $13.90 for the dvd plus postage. To keep the costs low, i just post out via regular mail with no tracking as it is just a $9 dvd. This is his initial paypal message:

I did send it before you messaged me twice. I didn't just send it when you messaged me again. When you do receive the dvd, are you just going to keep the money anyway? This is pretty low over a $9 dvd; i wouldn't just not send it to you to rip you off over $14. I have good feedback, i am a good long term trader and it would not make sense for me to not send you the dvd. I am not sure why you have not received it; everyone else has received their dvds i have sent out to date. Thanks.

Gary

Having used paypal for a long time and seeing Matt's paypal troubles, i know what will happen: he will get a paypal refund and miraculously have the dvd in his possession. Oh well, it could have been worse; he could have bought a box of Ultimate off me and did the same thing. Scammers suck!

The guy sounds like a douche. I hate how people buy stuff and expect it to turn up straight away. If he'd wait another week there'd probably be no issue.

On a side note - i hate people that try to ring me off ebay. Its always at an inconvienient and annoying time.

I recently had a abusive message off a guy telling me i must be dodgy because the phone number listed was disconnected.

Im not sure what he thought when he dialled the number i had listed - 02 1234 5678.

The day or two after he paid for it. I have a 2 business day turnaround from payment confirmation for that item. Anyhow, we'll see where it ends up.

Gary, does your listing state a handling time and time of days for delivery?

did the buyer go through the resolution process through EBAY or through paypal?

Did the buyer contact you before opening a case?

If the buyer has opened the case before the listing's handling time and delivery are up you can ask ebay to close the case as the buyer has not given enough time for the package to arrive.

There are some protection for sellers against stupid buyers.

Yes, and the dvd case was 'stuck together'.

Gary, it wasn't one of "Those" DVD's was it?

Cheers
Matt

2 working days handling time as sometimes i am a bit busy to post out the one dvd every day.

Nah, he just sent me an email which i replied to and then i got the message through paypal.

Nah, he just opened the case without any warning.

Thanks Pete; i will look into this.

I guess if you have been selling stuff on ebay for so long, you should know that you will eventually run into a scammer or a stupid newbie who has unrealistic expectations. And because of how ebay feedback system is structured, they will always get away with it and you will always lose. That's why, if I am selling something on ebay, they are stuff that I wouldn't mind giving away and all I am doing is just salvaging whatever people are willing to pay. Gary, you are doing the right thing with going cheap on the postage, from those other horror stories on ebay, nothing will protect you unless you are willing to go all the way to the authorities, so I normally just keep the overhead low so even if I lose it, the item is junk, the postage is at a minimum.

Update: i escalated this to a claim about 10 days ago. I logged into paypal today and this is what it said:

Status

The buyer cancelled this case and our investigation is now complete.

Nice guys sometimes finish first!
