Sorry man , i just can't agree with you one iota, IMHO your trying to justify that the seller can do what he likes to get the price he wants by manipulating the process, but the bidder can't get a "bargain" because the seller must be looked after, maybe i can't see your point because i consider myself a buyer, my feedback here is 98 and i would say that 90+ as a buyer, feedback on eBay is 980 with about 1600+ transactions with probably 100 as a seller, i assume you classify yourself as a seller (majority) not as a buyer, this is my assumption....

Not at all!! I'm not backing sellers... At all!! and I am much more of a buyer than a seller...
But I can't see the sense, as a buyer (Who has plenty of top end gear) in bidding more than i am willing to pay EVER!!
If everyone bid like this... then nobody would ever get anything for the right price!!
My only point is that if buyers Only bid to thier limit... then they would never be shill bid!!!
and if that doesn't work... then bid at the death (which is quite popular) Sellers can't shill you if they don't know you exist!!
And my other point is... I DO NOT condone it... but that is not going to stop it from happening.... EVER!!
it's happened to me... More than once!! Both as a buyer, As a seller, And from guys trying to form a bidding army!!
What can i do?? I want what i want!! And ebay doesn't give a stuff, they made potloads off my back.
So bidders should always be mindful of it.... Not liking the reality of the situation, does not changer the reality situation...
Mick, Mate... You follow the Dragons... For Goodness sake surely you can see the value of having your defense in order???
You got a premiership out of it!!
My point/opinion has been misinterpreted from the get go... i'm not trying to convince anyone any further....
All the huff and Puff in the world will not stop sellers from doing this to buyers, As a buyer... All i can do is bid within my limit, And hope for the best.
And suggest that others do the same, in order not to get torched!!

Or even have the courtesy to send a return email, After someone goes to the trouble to load photos etc.....
ps: The tigers cards that are I have now sold for $450 (for the 2 off ebay)... If the barnes sells for $150.00 Then thats what... $100.00 more than you told me they were worth???
YEP!! that's right buddy..... Kick on Tyre boy....

Did you really thought i was going to pay your ridiculously high price based on a photo like this?

I dont like people trying to rip me off or for that matter seeing other people get ripped of.

Your idea that somehow its bidders fault that shillers exist is crazy. Has it occurred to you why its against the law - to protect bidders from being ripped off.

interesting reading:whistle:, i think there may be something under the surface in this one that ive missed, but i think batboy has made it pretty clear he didnt agree with it from the first post and just tried to entertain some ideas of why it does happen. heres some quotes i noticed,
(I'm not IN ANY WAY saying I agree with what has transpired here)
(I am not defending anyone, Or agreeing with anything)
(Not defending anything other than my own hatred for ebay fees )
(My point is there is only ONE person that is responsible for how much I pay for a card.....)
(I didn't say I am OK with it.... But I am not going to lose sleep over it)

Hang about peanut... i believe the conversation went: what do you want for the 64 signed scanlens? My reply: i don't know owie... what are they worth in the O'neill price guide: Your reply: If they are in good conditon i would think 160-180... blah, Blah... Can you send me a scan??
Scan sent... End of corrospondance!!
And i got the emails to back it up.
so stop talking utter rubbish.... I never mentioned any prices to you... For any cards!!
Owen... have your read ANY of my posts... Or did you see a red flag and anoint yourself the leader of the resistance??
You my friend are a Joke!! Stop making me out to be something I'm not...
And twisitng my words with your mindless dribble....

Ah.. Yes, I stand Corrected!! I told you that you could have the lot for $470.00 for 3 Cards Delivered.
At about $150/card I thought it was fair and smack bang in the middle of the price range you gave me.....
Since then I have accepted offers of $250.00 for one and $200.00 on another.. So I have sold 2 for $450.00
$20 Less than what you claim was "A RIP OFF" for 3... Regardless, There is a right way and a wrong way to do things (Isn't what this thread in now about?)
And a simple return email would have been courteous at the least.
Owen... If you assume that Schill bidding doesn't occur on a daily basis JUST because the select few guys on here (Rightly so) frown upon it, Then you really are more naive and clueless than your running commentary indicates. I assume if you have had time to compile a book based on or partially on eBay research... You would be FULLY AWARE schill bidding is a relevant day to day occurance!! As is anyone who has been ebay card trading for a length of time... Regardless how any of us feel about it!!
Mate... You and your school yard army WILL NOT stop it!! I have bought from eBayers over the past 6 years who have had 5-6 new accounts over the years... Selling the same stuff!!
The reason I am so indifferent about it... IS WE ARE ALL POWERLESS TO STOP IT!! Even united.... My ONLY defense (And yours) Is to bid smarter!! That is the ONLY way to beat it!! And THAT responsibility lies with each and every individual as to when and the amount they place thier bids. If you place a $40 bid on a $30 card (at auction beginning) that is started on a 10 day 99c Auction .... You are leaving yourself WIDE OPEN to be schill bid!! And I am sorry, But if you do this... Then SOME of the responsibilty Lies with you!! LIKE IT OR NOT!!
If you don't want your pushbike stolen.... Don't leave it lying in the front yard!!
And you can take your moral arguement to ebay...
A perfect example of thier Morality is the Ticketek debacle:
It is ALSO highly illegal to scalp concert tickets for Profit!!
BUT.... Ebay allow it ALL YEAR EVERY YEAR... When U2 came in 06 $250.00 Tickets were selling for $2000+++
If you know anything about it.... Ticketek took eBay to court a while back..... Guess who won?????
EBAY!!!!
Even a WORLDWIDE CORPORATION as big as ticketek can't stop them in a court of law....
How are you gonna?
I am sorry but I will state it AGAIN and AGAIN, To assume Schill bidding doesn't happen because none of us do it IS PROPOSTEROUS!!!
And if you don't guard yourself against it then YES!! You are partially responsible.
I'm not a Thief... But I still lock my doors at night!!
... So go ahead and argue, Make this personnal.... I'm over it!!
I don't get schill bid.... If you or others do.... Then who's the fool??

Just because it happens does not mean me or my "school yard army" have to accept it. Its illegal and unethical.

And if you dont want to get personal dont cast the first stone.

Tyre kicker out....

You WILL find that you reducing my honest and friendly opinions to a lack of intellegence was the first casting of a stone..
If you seriously can't agree that bidding early on with reckless abandon is leaving yourself open to this kind of activity...
Then I really don't need to say anything further!!

I personally also do not condone shill bidding but it happens as a result of bidders going in too early and letting the seller know that he/she wants to win so much that the amount entered has plenty of room to grow. It is not ethical behaviour to take advantage but being I believe everyone in this society has the responsibility to learn and adapt. If there are predators out there, you need to be more alert and bid responsibly. If you put a bid of $30 down to guarantee winning something that is worth $20, then you have in fact prepared to pay $30, so even if it ends at $30, there is no one to blame but yourself. But instead of being angry and pointing fingers, you need to learn from the mistake and stop bidding recklessly so it will never happen again. Shill bidders might have taken away the innocence of bidding, but it is the same as making sure your doors are locked every night, keeping your wallet close to you, keeping your bling out of sight when you are walking around the hood. These are just defensive things that you should do to avoid something bad happening, coz at the end of the day, you can walk onto the middle of a busy road and expect cars to give way... but if one cannot stop in time, you will pay with your life... and even if it is the car's fault, you have lost your life and you're not getting that back. I think this is just about the willingness to change and adapt or continue living in a bubble.

Round in circles we go again hey.

Your both basically saying that all bidders have to take responsibility for themselves (even though they are operating within the rules) and only bid on auctions at the last second otherwise its their fault if a shill (who is not operating within the rules) rips them of.

Seriously give me a break. Its unethical, fraudulent and against the law but according to you guys we should just adapt and get over it.

Here's how OCT views shill bidders - http://www.ozcardtrader.com.au/foru...-your-ebay-auctions-bye-bye-ozcardtrader.html
