I had a visit from a fellow ozcard member the other day and he brought over some screw down card holders.. I have always known these existed.. But never purchased any before.. Always just used top loaders or stored in folders.. Now that I have some in hand I think they are great.......

Just wondering how you store your high end inserts.. And if they are in the screw down holders.. What brand do you use..??

I have about 6 in the screw downs... Black ones from ultra pro... Makes them stand out a bit....

magnetic one touches i think are hard to beat.
gives a card that slabbed effect similar to a graded card
& the corners are better protected in these than anything

I have always stored all of my cards in penny sleeves and then in toploaders or pages within folders. I have a problem with card surfaces sticking to the sleeves and only recently found that the film over my Fleer Brilliants set had blistered. I'm not sure if it's Queensland humidity but I seem to have a few problems emerging like foil lifting or spotting on cards. Does anyone else experience these problems?

All high ends in screwdowns mainly frames,$10-20 cards in Toploaders and other "lesser" inserts in penny sleeves in portfolio folders.

I havent had blistering issues with foils but ive had some "dull" when they are in the pocket sleeves (without penny sleeves) for like 5-10years, the ones i stored in screwdowns didnt seem to suffer from this.

everyone of my cards is in a premium penny sleeve in ultra pro pages. All the higher end cards (capt sig, jersey sig etc) are in premium sleeves, new top loaders and in one of the new top loader binders from nwcardsupplies.

Wow, more keep them in ringbinders than I would have thought.

Another member on here (who shall remain nameless) thinks I'm insane for keeping captain sigs, etc, in normal sleeves, but they're just easier to look at like that, and I've never had any suggestion of them being damaged.

The only wear of cards I've had in penny sleeves is the signature wearing off the card onto the sleeve very slightly on a signed 1996 cel card from the signature gold set ... but it's pretty much unavoidable - what else can you do?

The very reason i don't put my higher end in binders if they are stored on side. Binders straight up and not tight or over paged(causes card rounding) and higher end in magnetics, screw down or snaps. Also storing sets mindful of humidity. Master sets wrapped in Calico(draws any moisture and i renew periodically) etc for this reason If using screwdowns be patient loading as card can shift, if not careful.

i live in mt barker WA, cold climate here, some of my foil cards tend to round

No but aware of prob. The quality.... needs more TLC. Example, leave a 2006 Footy Face and a 2009 jersey card on your desk. You'll see the 2009 begin curling within days. 2006 card still flat. If your binder is not overloaded, causing rounding, humidity certainly factor. If your struggling dealing with prob. I live hundred metres from beach. Some of my sets are stored in those plastic "seat cover" bags from Auto shops. Ask shop keeper to put away some for you. Their the right size for the binder full of cards, zipper for access, hang by coat hanger and at least a cotton shirt over it all to further protect fromm the humidity. Even cards kept in plastic boxes need care. they will stick together. The glossys such as 2003 and 2001 need to be stored with cards side up or weight will aid "stick. Not 100% on it being all humidity, maybe the gloss coating also. I never sort out cards on humid and rainy days. That lifting is interesting, foil lifting with spotting or seperate issues?

I take the utmost care with storage (upright, not overloaded, etc.) and only use the best products. It's not a widespread problem I have, merely a few cards in a few different sets. The cards that are affected, they were never replicated, so perhaps the finish on the card is the issue. Even all my Finest and Chrome cards (notorious for curling) remain flat and in perfect condition.

This image shows 3 cards from 1998-99 Fleer Brilliants. These cards have spent their entire life in penny sleeves, brand new ultra pro pages and upright in a folder stored in a cupboard with 29 other folders that do not have this problem. The real damage is hard to see but the clear film on the cards has blistered and lifted away (the foggy lines and patches across the body), you can see the gold foil is missing in some parts on Wallace and is spotted on the 'Zo card in the middle. Camby is an example of how the card should look. These cards have a highly reflective, mirrored finish (nothing like a hologram).

On the other cards, you can see black spots over the gold foil on Francis and the section in which the player's name is printed on the Reserves was and is still meant to be an intense glossy red that stands out from the gold finish over the entire card, it has since faded to a yellow colour. These are the only sets amongst hundreds that I have that are showing signs of delapidation.

Maybe it's just these sets?

Could just have been a production issue or poorer quality stock they have used. Sounds like you have taken pretty good care of them.

The only thing I was worried about was the weather.. I live in Bushland Beach QLD.. Just north of Townsville about 15 mins out.. And the weather is usually humid.. To date I have never had a problem with my cards.. They are all stored in penny sleeves and then into folders.. (Penny Sleeves cost a FORTUNE when you penny sleeve EVERYTHING!!).. After getting these pkk card holders.. Very thick plastic.. I went about screwing down the top end inserts that I could find within hand reach.. I came back to work.. Then wondered.. "Will they be ok..".. "Will it be too hot".. "Did I do the screws up too tight".. It really started doing my head in........ Esp after I just put that 04 Cayless into one!!
