I know its footy season but it seems cricket card sales on ebay have really dried up compared to other years. Not just on ebay but you dont see too many sales on here either. Im not sure about markets, fairs etc over on the mainland but i dont see much dont here. What do you guys think? Is it just because its footy season or is it another reason, maybe lack of good cricket releases over the past 15 years.

Thought???

I think its partly that Cricket Card collectors get continually screwed (however that has been happening for years and years).

In saying that i think footy season holds things back.

Kinda off-topic but I remember thinking everytime I watched cricket replays in the news, the stands would almost be empty. Just wondering how professional cricket is still surviving when no one even turns up to inter-state games? =/

I think it's a combination of the AFL Season PLUS Australia has been struggling of late!

I personally have actively been looking for 1960's Scanlens cards so I have not even bothered with Cricket cards........not that there is anything I am chasing at the minute!

Yes Daz things are pretty quiet at the moment. Perhaps the guys who went to the recent card fair at Sandown might be able to tell us if there was much decent cricket stuff on offer, but eBay has been fairly flat.

It does appear that the high-end 90s autos are slowing down, haven't seen much of the rare stuff up for sale lately.

Although having said that I will have a nice mailday coming up soon to share with you guys...

id love to be finishing some older insert sets but theres just no sales about, and hasnt been much for awhile now. maybe its a combination of all things, cricket collectors being shafted in previous years (select clearly dont really like doing a quality cricket set), the aust team not performing like we we're used to, afl season etc etc. but i also think its the lack of superstars in the australian team. its a shame really. lets hope this international Futera release actually happens because the hobby needs it big time right now.

No new released will dwell the interest also!! You can hardly call last years Goldie cards a set worth collecting either!

or that disgraceful Ashes box set Select released. 50 numbered commons for $299 and not one auto, its an insult to collectors that Select would charge that kind of money.

i wounder how many out of 200 sets they still have in stock? and how many people who actually brought them are happy with them??? not too many im guessing.

Totally forgot about that set haha

I wonder if goldie are planning a similar release as they did last year... no cricket cards this year might call for a quiet AFL off season.

im sure things will pick up when the season begins and maybe the Aussies start winning again

im not too sure about that. what if Select dont do a cricket series and all we get are cheap printed sig mini bats and cards, another year with nothing to keep us excited about cricket cards. select are going ok with the AFL and NRL, they are atleast making an effort even if they are missing the mark by a fair bit still. but they have showed in previous years that they just dont care about cricket that much. and are not interested in doing anything International so how will they ever do a release that excites us. its going to need to be a different company other than Select, and i just cant see anyone in this country doing it well enough. its no good having competition if its only something like the goldie cards, they are not collectable enough by a long way!

I can gaurentee Select are NOT doing a set this year as they let their contract expire and did not reapply ...... so yeh mini bats might be it, which i am not a fan of at all.

nothing for the serious collector again then, bugger! come on Futera, join the party lol. i guess the only possitive is we can concentrate on finishing older sets. its such a shame, theres a market for it but i think it needs to be an International release or nothing.

That's a real pity but i can understand that its probably not economical for them.

Cricket cards collector have been getting the run around all the way back to Scanlen's. Its a real pity because they were well collected when i was growing up.

Thought with the new 20/20 series that something might come out. O'well....

theres something they could do, a 20/20 limited release. must have inserts and signature cards, but it would also contain some fly-in international players on cards. maybe 7-8 lesser names to sign say 300 cards each (make 2 or 3 of them internationals) then do 2 or 3 of the bigger names to sign 100 numbered cards.
gee Select need some new ideas, i would collect something like that by the box load for sure. they could even charge $200-$250 a box and as long as its a quality release im sure people would buy it. and containing overseas players keeps the international market interested too.

Plenty of cricket cards at Sandown, prices a quiet decent, here's what I picked up at the show.

nice pick ups. there are no fairs here in tassie, there are a few markets but only have crap stuff at huge prices trying to trick the kids. i seen a complete set from 2009 or 2010 champs and the guy wanted like $60 for it. but markets and fairs seem like the best places to pick up cards from. im over in melb on the 19th and 20th of august, are there any markets or fairs i could try for futera and other cricket cards?

Yeh I find markets and fairs are way cheaper then ebay. I will have a check if there are any fairs around 19 & 20th of August, generally most markets don't have any Futera cricket cards. Sandown fairs tend to have the majority of Futera and other cricket cards.
