Feedback for Select Australia - Please Read.

Fourthly - credit where its due. IMO Select has outdone itself on the Hawthorn Premiership Commemorative set. Would like to see more of this stuff in the future.

this was my thought until i actually got a set. when i opened the album for the first time the lid on the card holder of the game used ball card fell off and the ball card fell out of the album. not a good first impression.

some of the cards just dont look mint. they look like they have been 'handled', have slight bings on the corners, as if whoever was inserting them into the album pages shoved them in.

later on i also noticed when i looked at my album from an angle in the sunlight i could see traces of wipe marks on the case, which i think is glue marks from where the medallions and game card were glued into the outer case.

maybe this is just being picky but if you take a bunch of the commons out of the pages and hold them together they are not exactly the same size. you know how usually if you have a pile of cards from the same series they are exactly the same size. the hawks cards have a few odd cards that stand out by being a half a millimeter longer or wider, as if they have been guillotined by hand ?

dont get me wrong the set is fantastic, but i thought for the pricetag it just got let down by the finishing polish

Totally agree Phantom. Select really need to address these quality issues. There are plenty of companies that have moved production to China to save costs at the expense of quality. These issues can and have killed companies. Select need to address it with collectors and reassure them rather than deleting posts off their facebook page and sicking their head in the sand.

It has actually been quite interesting reading all the comments / suggestions in this thread and most of these things have been asked of Select previously be collectors / dealers etc. Whilst some of the suggestions have merit I think they just will not happen; for instance the SOO set, NSWRL and QRL I believe are just asking too much money to allow this to take place. Now Jersey / Logo cards whilst they look fantastic, I think the ones from 2003 were actually made by hand, the machinery was just not available in Australia to make those card types.

Couple things that would be great to see and would be well received I think would be something like the following:

1. Duel auto - say the halves for a particular set
2. Past heroes auto - likes of Meninga, Sterling, Brandy Alexander. Lewis
3. A card that highlights the big four players for each team, fullback, hooker and the halves (head shot on a quarter of the card each with logo in the middle).

Guys again great feedback.

To let you know, I spoke with Di at Select and invited her to come and view this thread (which she has) and she also indicated that she might join up in the near future to answer some of these questions directly.

I also congratulated her on posting a photo of the Billy Slater signing his Strike cards and she said they would love to do more of this but they cant always get to do this.

As I said previously, if we take the negativity out of the feedback and make it constructive, you start to get the right people listening about what can/cant be done.

Keep up the great comments!

Cheers
Matt

A hint to Select and to any business, your product/service defines who you are and how people perceive you, so i just opened my 3 box's today at 2pm, now i received them on Tuesday morning, but have been unable to open them due to working from Monday to Friday from 8.30am till 11pm, so i have been looking forward to them, Thursday night the wife does her back and has now 2 bulging disks, so Today has been another busy day for me coping with kids, doing stuff for the wife etc, i finally got my "time off" to open the box's
1st box 50 cards are faulty on the top left corner damaged, ruined..
2nd box about 30 but also noticed nearly 2 cards per pack and generally the middle ones seemed to be 1mm or so smaller than the other's, i assume printer realised they stuffed these cards then cut them again
3rd box was what i would accept.
So instead of relaxing i was getting annoyed...
Now You need to IMPROVE your QUALITY ASSURANCE on your products, no need to blame printer's because responsibility stops with you....
Forgot to mention 2 packets already opened as well in the box....
Postive's: I like the the Award Winners Cards & Top Prospects as well

Yes, I know we can send cards back that are damaged, but for the price, you'd like to think you are going to get a quality finished product that doesn't need time and effort from you to make satisfactory.

Just thought of another - it annoys me when there's numbered cards, but it doesn't say on the card what they're actually numbered out of. Now I love numbered cards, I think it's a shame when the predictor cards come back and they're not numbered, but it seems silly to have numbered cards when the "out of" number isn't there - the number becomes meaningless.

Can someone please let me know if the new cards are available in the shops yet.I live in Parramatta and i've tried 5 different newsagents so far,and none of them have the Select Strike cards yet.

Same here, been to a few newsagents around western sydney and none of them have packs for sale.

I have only bought 3 packs so far and I can't say I was disapointed in the quality of the base cards... Thats all I got lol. Anyway if Select are going to read this thread I'd really like to see some basic improvements that wouldn't cost them much and make the set look much better.

  • Two full pages of base cards. The set looks terrible finishing on random spots on the page.
  • A Full page Header or Checklist. It would look better if the front page was one big picture which would also not put the team sets out of sync.
  • One Insert in every pack. Not some parallel set but some sort of subset worth collecting. Nothing is worse than buying a few packs from the news agent and getting nothing other than base. You do feel ripped off paying $16.50 for some packs and getting base. Just makes me think i could have bought the whole base set from ebay for the same price or pick the inserts I wanted.
Sure Game worn and all the other ideas other sports cards get would be nice but a few simple changes would freshen up the hobby would be great.

I do like the new set but, I'm amazed at their lack of imagination. I'm sick of seeing the same insert sets every year. Surely someone at Select has the ability to think outside the box... If not, give me a call Select.

Coaching Rivalries: Bennett/Sheens Auto
Marquee Matchup Auto: Lockyer V Marshall or even Uate V Tuquiri
Indigenous All Star insert set.
NRL All Star insert set.
Best of new and old: Hodges/Renouf, Elias/Farah
Father/son cards Could be called "The next Generation" Morris, Mortimer, Pearce, Reddy, Hopoate possibly Gasnier and his uncle
Sibling sets: There are plenty of brothers that have played over the years, it doesn't have to be limited to presant day players.
State of Origin player insert set.
Mascots in action set. Oh god give me a mascot set using actual photos!!!! ;0)

Dont forget Matt Hatter, I have Cootes Souths 1971 Match Worn Grand Final jersey Select can use for the game worn jersey cards!!!

The thoughts keep coming. All in just 2 days, Select have a year to think about next seasons release.

300 Game Club
Goalkickers (Past and present great goalkickers)
Hatrick tryscorers
Tackling Machines (Players who average 35-40 or more tackles)
NRL Speedsters
NRL Big men
Fan Poll - Best of 2011. (Fans/collectors vote for their favorite player in each position, from the this year, for next years set)
and of course Player relics/jersey card redemtions

I would like game used jersey cards like the NBA cards there awesome. In the commons if two releases the full squad of players half in each.
