Right or wrong I'm sure everyone will have an opinion on this one.

I know most players and media figures have done OK from the sport and as such are very obliging with their time and signing memorabilia etc. but i came across this guy on Fri night that I thought was a bit on the nose.

This guy got some sigs from a well known ex-player which I have no prob with EXCEPT he wanted 15-20 of the exact same item that had been mass produced.:mad::mad:

I couldn't help myself but to comment on it as I always try to limit to 2-3 items per player and always different cards/items if possible. No wonder some players etc can get a bit annoyed when we ask for a sig or 2.

As such I have coined the phrase of "Sig pig" for the situation I experienced. What are ppls thoughts on this? Any similar experiences?:whistle::whistle:

If there is a crowd around i will usually call these guys out (as long as they don't look like they can kick my a*se).

I had an experience once in Newcastle after a game with quite a few people waiting around for autographs where a guy did the exact same thing. A few people started to make comments to him and the player (sensing the mood of the crowd) signed a couple and gave the rest back and started signing things for everyone else.

My phrases for these types usually start with the letter F.

ill bet he was a strange kid (18-22 year old) with a raiders jersey, that will happily approach you in the weirdest ways.

if it wasnt thats not good because it means theres more than the strange fellow that comes out to penrith.

i watched him get shillington or leroyd lahs i forget but anyway he got one of them to do yeh 17 of the 2009 champions card and i reckon 30+ all up.

He must have a Raiders fetish poor kid :)

There are a few well known ebay sellers who travel to training grounds / airports to collect sigs on cards. One in particular brings a small bus compact with kids who have a folder of cards to get done. He pays the kids a very small amount per card they get done and sells them for a fortune. Its guys like this that put the auto hunter for single cards of their team out of business.

As most if you know my PC is based around signed base sets. I gain 99% of these in-person. I have seen the guy in the Raiders jersey, there's a guy in a titans jersey who was actually kicked out of a NSW signing session. I now obtain the majority of my sigs at team training. I take my folder along just to show the players that I actually collect. The players are great, have a chat and read the cards etc. They mention that they hate signing multiple items and will either do poor sigs on purpose or just refuse.

I think there is etiquette that goes along with sig collecting. I will only ask for a maximum of 3, if I do want more then I will wait for others to get stuff done before I ask again. I make sure any kids that are waiting get there's signed first.

I do sell some if my signed cards, but I do prefer to trade. I sell on OCT and very rarely eBay. I also give a lot of my signed cards to local kids.

It really is unfortunate that these "sig pigs" are ruining it for everyone else, if we're not careful we'll end up like AFL fans where you cannot get anywhere near the team after a game.

There's a weird Souths guy too...brings a whole bag...and it's full of s#itty RLW and Tele clippings and the sort. Strange.

I go to training, and have 1 jersey signed every season (I bought up a dozen from Best and Less a few years ago [large kids size, no sponsor].

Always polite, ask nicely, and the players are cool with it. And yes, some of them say how much they dislike signing 10 of the same thing, players I haven't met before ask me if this is going on Ebay and I say no, just for my bar room and I always take the little fella so it gives them a distraction too.

I was with Mischa when this happened the other night. The ex player in question signed them but you could tell he was uncomfortable and too nice to say no. This player is always happy to sign stuff for me but I only ever have 1 of each item for my PC. Mischa you should have made your comment earlier (funny by the way) to give him a bit of an avenue to refuse but you were probably a bit stunned at the situation like me. He even made the comment that Blocker Roach had said to him "Jesus mate how many games do you go to". He thought Blocker was making a compliment he obviously doesnt understand sarcasm. The guy in question is always at Parra games and yes he usually has some kids with him. Cant remember if he wears a Canberra jumper but he usually has a mate with him who wasnt there the other night. The guy has short dark hair and looks a bit like Mick Ennis to me. When the first series of cards came out this year he had a bag of them with each different card rubber banded together with each bundle about 1cm thick. I know the item in question and when he puts them on the BAY I will bring it to everyones notice. I understand these people serve a purpose for those who cant get to games and want some signed cards but I hate them.

it's a shame there are people out there that abuse this system but at the same time ebay is one of the only ways someone like myself can get signed nrl cards. just be thankful that you guys can get access to them fairly readily because your "local" teams are loaded with players from the not-so-central locations where league fans and collectors like myself live. however, this guy (the accused) seems to be way over the top and i hope all his sigs fade. and for all sig collectors with morals, keep up the good work.

I'm glad I'm not the only one thinking this. And by the way, I have NEVER experienced anyone from this site do anything such as this. All a credit to the site IMO

Have noticed this heaps of times, when i went to get my Costigan signed card/jersey(Tigers v Newcastel), one of the guys gave John Skandalis about 20 odd cards as well,Skando goes to him "i just signed a heaps last week for you and will only sign 3 no more"... what annoys me is that players may think any adult getting signatures is a seller, not a big kid(collector), i don't go selling auto cards, probably be lucky if i have ever sold 1 or 2 cards in 10years....
In 2008 when the centanary cards came out, went to a Dragons open day, there was these kids who had heaps of cards anyway they kept on giving Gasnier cards to sign, he eventually changed his sig to what you see today, kids were pissed off, cause they work for some seller, they also come to every game and will wear multiple jersey of the opposition and when players come out they get them to sign the jersey there wearing, then they lift it to sign the one below...
Always see the same guys/kids trying to get the auto's and signatures....

I agree 100% Mischa

and lolololo we are all talking about the same person here. him and his strange little wing man

not sure even strange comes close to describing that guy, me and rekless have witnessed some shockers for him. the best being his confusion of blair and matt duffie if thats even possible.

yeah his everywhere, asking what are you getting signed etc, last time i went to get autos Dragons vTitans, there was a guy(seller?) he was of chinese/asian background, getting all these sig's, then scraggy looking guy comes up to him asking what he got signed and to show him, they guy was very "secretive" , scraggy guy got annoyed and walked away mumbling the "F" word...

yes lololololol. its him i see him on the news all the time at post game interviews and things.

I see him all the time, after the Rabbits panthers game I got a few cards signed, he got the ****s cause he kept missing players. He ended up pushing me towards the gate and said "oh man this is **** let's go". I don't know this guy from a bar of soap, but I did tell him that if he wanted to leave he could but if he ever touched me again I would smash his dirty little rat face in.

He always brags about how he's been here there and everywhere getting sigs, but ive seen his cards and they are in horrid condition, bent corners, edging. If I got one off eBay I'd be leaving negative feedback in an instant.

I have seen this guy, He's definately a bit different!!
Might be a bit of a hard wrap on him though fellas....
I think he's not all there?? He is a Raiders fan
But he seems to be friendly with a few players from different teams,
My guess is he's been around for a while? But he is at almost every game???
He doesn't look like he could afford it, So maybe he sells... Or works for someone?
