How much is your whole card collection worth?

Obviously we are making a fair few estimates and assumptions but this could be a fun thread!

I would say my entire collection would be worth around $25,000.

Mainly with my AFL and Cricket stuff and a couple of $K worth of NBA stuff.

Not after "sentimental value, hard to place" blah blah, have a crack!

Also hard to put a value on my collection. 20 years from now they could be worth 100 times more then they are now or 100 times less. Luckily i collect for what interests me and not value :)
 
Interesting topic...

Not because I feel that the WORTH of a collection is only what someone is willing to pay for it, however if you were to lose it, do you have enough insurance to buy this stuff back for you.

I have for the last 3 months been using Beckett online to register all my cards that are not base. I have found that this is a very valuable to help keep track in case I have to make a claim. Now, if you do not have house insurance on your collection, then you in my book are a bit left of centre, if you know what I mean. I can't recommend more that the cost of a box of cards can for the year cover your collection, along with the other contents in your home.

As for the worth of my collection, anyone have 2 million dollars? That is what I think its worth, however the Beckett value is a heaps less. In honesty, its worth only what your willing to pay for it.

Enjoy your collections guys and gals, I do, but most of all, protect your investment.

Would agree with Dave, too scared to find out what it is worth monetary.... The unknown is what keeps me buying and keeping my Missus off my back. If she ever finds out it is worth something, she most probably divorce me and want half its value.

Putting monetary aside, I think it is the intrinsic value of the card which is completely priceless. I'm not sure about the rest of you guys, when I am down at times, pulling up my collection and having a look always gives me joy and pride. Again I can't put a value or price on that!!!! And sometimes I like to share that joy with other collectors as well by trading with them or giving them away. Again collecting is about having fun and not spending too much money whilst doing that. I started collecting in September last year, and have recorded everything I have bought, got them all recorded in an Access database, I've tried to keep all reciepts from Ebay and card stores I guess for insurance purposes, and i'm creeping up to 2K SPENT on cards, as for value.......
 
Interesting question... I was horrified to see what I had spent just on my set chase... my Tag Teams - the ones I have personally bought off ebay on my id (so not including the ones SBF got for me or the ones I got off forums) came to over $4kUS. Scary stuff!
 
My collection would be worth nothing to most but to me it is priceless!!! To try and put a monetary value on it would be very difficult. I have spent many years building a collection of a player that has pretty much no value in the hobby, but I am so happy it is mine!!!!!!

Honestly I would love to protect my investment but two problems arise, first I have found that most insurance companies won't insure a 'collection' (now define collection...........lol), secondly, in the Australian trading card market we lack a 'Beckett' type company to value a card, individually some of my cards are very low in value BUT the price takes off in leaps and bounds when you look at the overall structure / framework of the PC. Currently I am with RACQ insurance, they will not insure my trading cards and they won't say why.............? I will though give some consideration to the value of each album in my sport / non-sport PC to see where we are headed.

I've got my entire collection insured through NRMA for $40k. Not saying that is what it's worth, but having kept tabs on the amount spent on each and every item, and factoring in the current prices realised through ebay, I figured it's as good an amount as any to put down for insurance purposes.
 
Can i ask how much you pay per year for this??

I have looked in to the whole insurance thing as well. I might be wrong but I think there is a difference between insuring cards vs memorabilia. By memory my card collection could be insured up to a max of $2k or something with memorabilia value not allowed to exceed 50% of your total contents value insured.
