Just an Idea

its a good idea, however i think that maybe the mods should collect the info and store it, rather than everyone having everyones phone numbers (this is just for security, i know i dont want everyone, not taking aim at people, to have my number)

if something arises, then, at the descretion of the mods, they can contact the person.

maybe a mod can weigh in on this.

not sure if its really a negative but i dont want random people knowing my phone number. i dont even like them having my address, but thats unavoidable.

Yeah good points, i have no issue giving my number out to a person im doing a deal with, also happy for the mods to collect the info...

understandable regarding that....

I'm 13 and I don't want grown men I don't know having my phone number.

i think that would be the way to go, and even then its still optional for the person to give out the number..

The issue then comes down to privacy, what if we give out a number that then causes an issue between 2 members e.g. pranking a number etc ?

Its also the maintenance of keeping the numbers up to date. That would be a nightmare.

In theory its a nice idea, however its not one that I can see us being able to implement.

I definetly don't want just anyone having my number. The site has rules in place, if they are followed, most of the time things go according to plan. In the odd occurance things may go wrong like this. It happens. But that's the chances you take by trading online.

Bingo! :D ..

the other thing is what's to stop someone give a fake number? Unless the mods rang every number to check who it was on the other end. Not sure about Matt/Graham but I don't have the time or the money to be doing that.

Also there are times where things do come up and you cannot get to the site. So imagine if you get a call from Billy going where are you? Why haven't you posted those trades etc. when a fmaily member has just passed away or you've been hospitalised through illness.

I've got no problem with it as I have nothing to hide and no is in the phone book anyway. However, ppl often chop and change numbers, give fake no's, and could be a prob for the mods if the sh!t hits the fan re privacy laws etc.
I have put together an excel file of a fair few ppl I trade/have traded with (I can trust most of them anyway) including names, adresses, ph no if I have it, and email addresses. Some of this info you can get from a paypal tranaction or on order details from an Ebay transaction. I mostly put it together as a resource of like minded people for my collecting. It may be used in other ways if needed

what about another form of contact, doesnt have to be mobile. im happy to give mine a few OCTers have it but a work number or something?

Unfortunately its a mine field from a privacy standpoint. Pretty tough one to get around - its a pity when 99% of us are honest to deal with.

There's a few problems with phone numbers.. but like Billyhoyle says, there is no way to tell if someone's given a valid phone number... another issue, assuming we all gave real numbers, some fool might end up harrassing another member due to some stupid dispute... on top of that, we are all people with collections worth thousands if not millions of dollars, giving away the phone number is half way to inviting someone to come over to our house and rob us.

Agree and Disagree, giving ones number how does that invite them to rob you, considering majority give out home address when doing a deal?? I can undesratnd the rerservation people have...

You got a point.. we do give out home address when we trade but when information becomes easily accessible, someone will abuse it.
