Having never sent away cards, I went into Aust Post to ask them how much it was for stamps for a normal Bubble wrapped postage and they said it was $3.80 for each package as I had 2. I thought that was fairly steep, but when i returned home i recieved a package from ruckers which would have weight prob the same and the stamps on it were only $1?!?!

Not one to make a scene because it's only a few dollars but did I do something wrong or did my local post decide to rip me off on this one? lol Any help would be appreciated guys! Thanks in advance.

Pete

P.s: If this is in the wrong forum, many apologies. #-o

unless you wrapped the cards in REALLY heavy packaging, then you got ripped buddy, ive never paid more than $1 for postage for 1 bubble mailer. if youve still go the docket go back and get a refund.

i've got the receipt here next to me and it says one is 0.093kg and the other was 0.041kg...i did use thick cardboard on them tho...

Hey Pete!!
Try this link...it's for the Australia Post postage calulator. I think you'll find the post staff might have been playing it by the book with you, by making your package a "parcel" instead of a "letter". This normally happens if your package is more than 2cm thick. (My posties are nice and sometimes overlook it!!)

thanks for that info Allstars! Makes a lot more sense since i couldnt imagine the local postie would try to rip me off

BTW your package has been sent, so hopefully with the more expensive posting it might arrive sooner!

They should have gone at large letter rate of $1 each, unless they were too thick to fit thru the slot on their gauge testing thingamagig. I've found the local post office always rips me off when I go there, so I always go to the local delivery center instead. Stuff gets where it's going quicker that way too.

I'll deff. keep that in mind and next time i need to send something out, i'll look into it. thanks Bargey

or just stick a $1 stamp on it and put it in the mailbox :D
thats what i do, ive done that when sending Holojam sets (and theyre like 4cm thick :) )

From personal experience of selling heavier items than cards, I have posted off Peruvian Jewellery in bulk lots of 5, and the weight and thickness of them is far greater than trading cards wrapped in cardboard AND a plastic thingy (the hard ones) lol.

I've posted the stuff off for $1.00 postage myself, so the post office need a foot up the ass and told to stop tryin to rip people off.

Here's a tip too for people who buy their bubblemailers from Aust Post:

If you prefer brand new bubblemailers (I do for some reason), at 85cents a pop @ Aust Post is a rip off. Officeworks have them for almost 30cents cheaper (58cents). They are about the same size, when you compare them side by side, they are wider (from the open end to the closed end) and a bit smaller in height (top to bottom).

Officeworks Bubblemailers at about 98cents are absolutely huge! almost A5-A4 size, so I bet everyone gets the picture.

I will be stocking up on those big time in a few weeks for when I put more stuff on ebay to sell :D

It's weird...but it pays to shop around....the plain gold c5 and a4 size envelopes are heaps cheaper at the Aust Post business centre than Officeworks...especially when they're on special.

If you are going to be using a lot of those bubble mailers, the cost dramatically reduces if you buy a box of 100 from australia Post.
I think it goes from 85 cents to about 35 cents per bubble mailer (ie the Box of 100 costs about $35).

exactly lockey, thats what i do and its cheapest option by far.

I'd say they went as a small package, and not a large letter.

I just sent 3 off today (2 had 1 card in top loader and the 3rd had 2 cards in 3 top loaders).

Total cost was $5.55 ($0.85ea for the 3 padded bags) and sent as large letters ($1.00ea).

I even ask them to print the postage stickers rather than putting the $1.00 postage stamps on them, as I get a receipt that shows the Post Codes where I send them. (if non-registered mail, it's the only other way to "prove" I've sent them).

What were the weight of the ones you sent?
The heaviest today (2 cards/3 top loaders) was 0.047kg.

yeah ive had major discrepancies the times ive sent cards... today i sent 1 thinking between $4-$5 for all postage and handling (those penny holders cost money too MavsMan  lol), and the chick smiles and asks for 1 dollar. I felt like the biggest tight arse after quoting 5 bucks postage. Going to talk to the buyer later, but really, it very confusing for the casual poster.

$5 postage would cover registered. lol.

Yeah naturally a card comes with penny sleeves, so I didnt mention them.

A great learning post for one and all!!!

i just buy bubble mailers in lots of 10 and buy $10 worth of stamps and when i nedd to post i chuck $1 worth of stamps and chuck it in a post box

I hate that 2 cm measuring thingy like Bargey mentioned! I actually went feral at the postie today! After he just casually said it was too thick. I said BULLS*IT and made a big scene demanding I check it myself. Sure it fitted just just just fine. My girl just stood next to me mortified! Looks like sex is out tonight :)

Sex is always going to be tough to get if it measures less than 2 cm.....:p
