Anthony Watts charged with assault | thetelegraph.com.au

I love my Rugby League, but it seems every week there is negative publicity, much of it has been cooming from the Roosters recently, yet their management (Politis, Noyce and Smith to a lesser extentant) have not had the kahunas to sack the high profile players.. Over the last 3-4 years the Roosters have been in the press for all the wrong reasons, Carney(Alcohol, Driving), Friend(Alcohol), Myles(Hotel), Mason?(urinating) Sa(assault) Cherrington(assault) Fittler (Alcohol) Watts (Assault) Pearce(incident with Friend at a Bar, UNPROVEN?), Sandor Earl, and 2 Lower Grade players who got sacked...
Until your club decides to act and sack a Carney, Friend instead of a no name lower grade player you will always be in the media...
Watts will be sacked only depending on what involvment Carney had, if Carney has done nothing, then Watts is gone, if Carney has been involved then Watts will get a big fine, thats it thats how your club operates A BIG DISGRACE...
Let me tell you if Soward or anyother Dragons player had been in trouble so often i would be ringing my club, emailing them to SACK them...
Rant Over....

ill come to defend sandor here... he was cleared of all involvement.

as for the others they can get what they deserve.

cannot agree more with you AyiosYiorgos time and time again the roosters hit the headlines for the same reasons Alcohol and assaults time to crack down and sack them never been a fan of the roosters and never will just carnt wait till next week when we give them a touch up on footy field

cheers jono

As a now ex Roosters fan who followed them since 1996, I hate this sort of behavior and will no longer be supporting the club.

What is it about the Roosters culture that is causing this to be a club of immature morons.

I have to agree with everything said above.

Cheers
Matt

Can't remember what he was involved in now just remember it was in the papers... My point is the Roosters have done nothing to fix the issue only sacking 2 u/20's players for the same incidents that the 1st graders have done...

There are more incidents that have happened but the media never got a hold of, alot has to do with the Eastern Suburbs culture of partying etc, they all want to be involved in the social scene...

When Politis, Noyce and Smith get some Kahunas they might improve.... Hope we give them a touch up, but they will be ready for us, we tend to bring the best out of them and also the occasion will be huge Anzac and all that...

what do you expect? the roosters have always thought they were bigger than the game itself, hardly surprising that these player attitudes surface.

On another unrelated matter, I must say that I did enjoy watching the clinical destruction of the Roosters last night on Fox Sports...................:woot:

2 from 6 with Brian Smith (the 3rd best coach in the comp) and a roster that was supposed to be top notch with the NSW SoO halves for the next 5 years. Have been terrible this season and only really, really fired up for the local derby with Souths and only won it very late in the game allowing Souths to get pounded in the press.

Sadly, I don't believe much will happen in regards to this case.

Dont forget about Brian Smith in all this - he left Newcastle with a couple drug dealing forwards in Houston and Wicks. Why does Wayne Bennett never has these issues.

Im sure if i had the same driving record as Carney i would have had a prison stint by now - ohh to be a Rooster player.

I think the Roosters are sooo firmly focused on the prize in September, they take on all the misfits that other clubs have rejected, without regard to the reputations these players have.

I agree 100% that Watts should be sacked for attacking a woman, but really what are you gonna sack Carney for? Having a drink? Resign from your own job, then! I'm sure just about every member here over the age of 18, and possibly a few UNDER the age of 18, had a drink on the weekend. Now you want to sack Carney for having a drink and doing nothing else? Are we in some sort of Ultra-consertative muslim emirate or something??? As for Carney going to jail, the judge WANTED to throw him in jail, until she realized this would've been an ILLEGAL punishment for such a low-grade drinking offence. Carney's done a few things wrong, no doubt. But if he gets sacked for being in the same place as Watts when Watts lost it, there's something wrong there, in my opinion...

Your missing the point, little over a week ago Carney is at court and saying he has realised he has been a tool and is going to AA and won't be drinking again, a week later he is out and about drinking till all hours of the morning, the issue here is he has no respect for his team mates, his club, the court's and most of all himself, he has been given numerous chances at the Roosters and believe me there is more that has not been reported, there were as 2 lower graders were sacked for similar incidents that Carney / Mylees have done, he should be sacked and the money from his contract go towards helping him out to whether that be rehabilitation or whatever...
Thats the issue he puts himself in these position, if he was not drinking the story would have been about Watts only....

So because Todd Carney tested over the limit by probably a bottle lid of alcohol and gets tried by Australia's version of Judge Judy, he should have to give up alcohol completely until he retires, I spose??? I'm curious, because I'm STILL yet to find anything, but what exact laws did he break on his "wild night out"??? I can see EXACTLY what Watts is in trouble for, but Carney's supposed to be sorry for having a few beers and being in the vicinity when stuff went south? As far as I'm concerned, a lot of people upset about this seem to be upset that Carney seems to thing that he's entitled to a life, and doesn't come and thank them enogh personally for allowing him to play football in front of them. So what, he's got a better job than most of us. Have a cry then get over it! Carney doesn't owe you, me, or any random guy/girl off the street a damn thing just because he plays football. As for the problem being purely that he's been drinking, I'm quite sure he could've been on lemon squash all night until that happened you'd still have people up in arms. He doesn't have to alternate his free time between church and community soup kitchens just because he hit the jackpot and plays in the NRL...

Carney is a tool if you cant see that, then thats your problem and its people like you who keep patting him on the back and telling him his in the right, he needs a reality check..
No he didn't break the law, BUT he lied to the club, by telling them he was going home to see his mum, he has an injured hamstring and is in rehab for it but instead is getting on the sauce which is against club policy...

Hell, maybe Todd is a tool. Hell, I've got friends who grew up with him in the Goulburn area, and they tell me about when he was still in town about the fights/trouble him and his mates were in every other weekend. But really, so what... Its nothing that the average Aussie male doesn't do, or in some cases would like to do but they're scared of the consequences. I mean, youd think some of you guys have never been to a pub or club on a Friday night...

Having said that, I don't know how drunk (if at all) he was, or how late he was out. I mean, if you pace yourself you can still be having a good time at "Lockout". But ok, he might not have told his club he was going out drinking, and staying off the sauce MAY help his recovery time a fraction, although I'm a bit dubious about the recovery times that these "experts" come up with... So in conclusion, it seems most of you want his employment terminated because he didn't tell his boss he was going drinking and his recovery MIGHT have been help slightly if he'd stayed off the drink. Well, you're entitled to your opinion like everyone is, but I wonder how many of you will be at work bright-eyed and bushy tailed the morning after your own grand-final BBQ's later this year, or New Years Day, or basicly every Monday morning till you retire. I'm sure you'll say you're all upstanding pillars of the community and wouldn't take a sicky for anything less than 2 broken legs, but I'd say most of you would be kidding yourself, myself definately included...

Mate if i turn up to work drunk i will get a warning if i do 2-3 times i will be out, if i drink during work hours same thing, you miss the point and maybe thats because you have an association with him via your friends and maybe if one of his friends smacked him a cross the head and told him to wake up to himself, he wouldn't be in this position, how many chances must he get, its like he knows, the most he has to do is apologise and all will be forgotten....
