2011 Champions - Impressions

First off I like the set, the cards feel nice and they look pretty good IMHO. So for comments here goes:

1. Packaging is a ***** to open (card packets), a lot different to previous years so be VERY careful or you will damage your cards.
2. Cards are coming out of the packets damaged, prolly 70 percent of my parallel cards have slightly bent corners and the foil lifting off on the edges where the blade that cuts the sheet retracts.
3. Rookie sensations are VERY easy to mark, once you get the inserts out put them straight into penny sleeves, I had one Rookie Sensation (Broncos) that has a punch mark in it, like it has been hit with a nail punch.
4. Stardom GEMS are nice to the touch, reminds me of the 2007 GEMS, only thing I don't like are the bobble heads.
5. It is quite likely you won't get a complete base set out of a box, I just sorted my base set for my PC and was 3 cards short, I had to raid another box to get those cards and they were the only card in that box, Brett Seymour was one of those, not sure if they have been short printed or what.

Now I am not wingin and *****in I am just glad to have cards to collect again, all I can say is ber VERY VERY careful when opening and look after them.

Dave, in the end it didn't matter how carefully I opened them, they came out with lifted edges and bent corners BUT if you open them without care then because of the new packaging you can damage further.

Thanks for the heads up Dave. Do you think a little razor cut at the top or bottom of the packet would be better when my turn to bust comes?

Mischa, I opened my packets by cutting the top off the packet on a self healing mat, peeling the joint apart slightly and lifting the cards out AND I still got heaps with damaged corners, they are like that in the packet unfortunately

dk trading cards got a telegraph card in his according to the live case break. this is a very interesting series

a point to talk about. why are the boxes so expensive if you have no way of selling to come close to getting your money back.

Well after putting all my cards in the albums and then looking at which were damaged etc I decided I am not collecting this series, for me its just the base set, Broncos parallel set and the Bronco inserts, will update my website over the next day or so with what cards are available.

It will take that long cause redtorana gets first dibs on all the cards.

Apart from the dealers i dont think you will be alone in chasing your own team only. even if you hit a card you are chasing there is every posabilty that its damaged in some way so you would have to keep buying them or trading and it could take a while.

Thats interesting, wonder what the eBay sellers who were doing pre-sales are doing, can see alot of refunds... im opening mine on the weekend...

Just opened my box, I've noticed I only have 2 of the 4 checklists to begin with! Bad collation by Select this year. Will have to grab another box to complete the set and hopefully pick up a few more Raiders inserts!
